  • Keto Sticks - do you use them?

    Hello!

I was just curious as to how many people rely on the keto sticks to make sure you are in ketosis?

I used one or two the first week but didn't see the need to keep doing it.

Yes, I do. As Dr. Atkins says in the book, seeing the sticks turn color is "chemical code" that I am losing weight. They are a great mental boost for me. Helps me stay on track.

To put it bluntly, I'm too cheap to buy something only to pee on it and then throw it out!
      uh...well...I mean, I do use toilet paper...but you know what I mean...lol

I'd rather save my money for all the clothes I want to buy now.

But Casey makes a very good valid point that for some folks it's very reassuring to see the colour change. Especially in the beginning of Atkins, when a person isn't sure if this really can be working it can be a comfort.

Each to his/her own though, right?

actusally they are just telling you you are peeing out one form of ketones ( ketones exist in 3 forms in humans) in a concentration high enough to register on that stix at the time that urinke was made. We can be be doing out Atkins wrong have color on the stix and be gaining weight.

If you need to see results use thephysical symptoms of dep ketosis and Atkins esating to tell you cause if your urine is dilute or you are burning that measured form for energy adn peeing out the not burnable form your stix will not change color and you will mistakenly think you ar doingsomething wrong with your Atkins.

I use them occasionally, just for re-inforcement that I haven't done anything wrong. Mine have turned dark purple almost from day one, and yes I've been drinking tons of water! I probably average at least 100 oz. per day.

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

I haven't bought any. I guess I don't really need to SEE proof as I can SMELL the proof! LOL

i bought them just because i'm sort of obsessive. however, everything i've seen has essentially said that they're imprecise and really aren't a good indication of progress. i still like watching them turn purple, though.

I bought them initially but have never seen much in the way of colour on them, so didnt bother to buy another pack when they ran out.

Just a note: You're not supposed to touch the testing end....you're supposed to take one out quickly and replace the cap. Then only urine should be touching the test end. Cutting them in half probably isn't a good idea and may affect the accuracy of the testing. You might just want to use them less often if you're trying to save $$....

If you are new to this I would recommend buying them.

At the least they might show that you're eating hidden carbs somewhere and what to cut out if you are super senstive.

As for us veterans we never use em - we know what we are doing but for a newbie they would probably be very helpful.

Maybe , maybe so, But sense this isnt going to be reported to the dr, and decisions will be made on my urine strip outcome, And that it starts my day on a positive note, Ill still cut it half and have my minite of thrill
