Re: Salt???
I would recomend that you drastically limit your salt intake full stop whilst doing Atkins, mainly because it will make you cause you to retain water.

Re: Salt???
i agree with Rich ,lower your salt intake to get better results
here is what u will find helpful....
Healthy 19- to 50-year-old adults should consume 1.5 grams of sodium and 2.3 grams of chloride each day -- or 3.8 grams of salt -- to replace the amount lost daily on average through sweat and to achieve a diet that provides sufficient amounts of other essential nutrients.
The tolerable upper intake level (UL) for salt is set at 5.8 grams per day. More than 95 percent of American men and 90 percent of Canadian men ages 31 to 50, and 75 percent of American women and 50 percent of Canadian women in this age range regularly consume salt in excess of the UL.
Older individuals, African Americans, and people with chronic diseases including hypertension, diabetes, and kidney disease are especially sensitive to the blood pressure-raising effects of salt and should consume less than the UL.
Adults should consume at least 4.7 grams of potassium per day to lower blood pressure, blunt the effects of salt, and reduce the risk of kidney stones and bone loss. However, most American women 31 to 50 years old consume no more than half of the recommended amount of potassium, and men's intake is only moderately higher.
There was no evidence of chronic excess intakes of potassium in apparently health individuals and thus no UL was established.

Re: Salt???
I was a salt-a-holic. I talked to my doctor when I first started Atkins. She said that we get enough sodium from foods and never need to salt our food. I haven't added any extra salt to my foods in two years. Now, when I eat something that has a salty taste, instead of thinking it is delicious, I can't stand it. I no longer have swollen ankles and/or fingers when I wake up.Starting Date 3/12/04 285/165/145 - F

Re: Salt???
you should only limit your sodium on Atkins if you were or are having excessive amounts Sodium is a very important nutrient but most folk have too much and the human body is very good at conserving sodium already obtained. the daily limit doe healthy folk fro sodium from all sources food andbeverage is 3500 mg ifyou have a blood pressure or medical reason to go lower then your doc will advise you to do so.
Just plug your food into one of the free online sites like www.fitday.com and seehow much you are getting. Many low carber because of the limited pottasium in the food choices on induction use one of the lite salts with both potassium and sodium in it.by the book atkinseer

Re: Salt???
I avoid adding table salt to foods just because I know it occurs naturally in essentially everything I eat; adding it is an unnecessary step for me.
If you're a salt lover, have you considered a salt substitute like NuSalt? If you're having any muscle/calf cramps at night, the large amounts of potassium (in even a tiny 1/8-teaspoon serving!) might help with this. Sometimes I put this in my zero-sodium MaraNatha Macadamia Nut Butter, and even though this nut butter tastes so good it honestly doesn't need salt, it's still actually pretty good this way, too!
