  • Newbie Day 4 of Induction, Some Questions!

Hey everyone , ive been reading this board a couple of days before i started my induction (4 days ago) and thought id join and ask a couple questions and get a little more support along the way.. Im from scotland and im 21. I have a little boy whos nearly 1 and im finding the whole experience very interesting as iv never before explored this way of eating.. I do however have a couple questions that id be really grateful if some of yall could help with. First off i see quite a few people posting that they eat sausages on induction... i havent eaten any as i remember hearing from somewhere that these are illegal on induction?? is it a specific type or? Also i see that you have ranch dressing and other types of salad dressing with your veggies, ive stuck to just mayo as im too scared that id pick the wrong one or that its a brand that you guys in the states only get... Also has anyone from the uk found a jello that isnt sweetened with aspartame?

lol im sorry for the long post and all the questions what can i say im just hungry for knowledge - which makes a change from hungry for chips!

    thanks!

Re: Newbie Day 4 of Induction, Some Questions!

    Hi
Welcome to our ADBB family - good to see another brit on board.

British bangers on the whole are not allowed on induction as they contain so many fillers - some sausages dont even contain 50% of meat!!

I buy german sausages - bratwurst - with no fillers at all, just meat and spices - which are fine for induction. I get them from Lidl supermarket, but I imagine any supermarket would have them. Just check the labels to see if everything on the list of ingredients is on the 'allowed list' in your DANDR.

I also buy mayo (from lidl) which has only 0.9 carbs per 100 grams and if I want a different flavour I add spices, herbs, crumbled blue cheese etc to it.

As for non-aspartame sweetened jelly I dont think it exists in UK (except from online shops which are very spendy), so I buy unsweetened gelatine and sweeten it with davinci sugarfree syrups or splenda.

If you do make your own 'legal' desserts remember that Dr Atkins considered desserts ought to be an occasional treat - not a daily food item!!

Many of us found that by avoiding sweetened foods on induction we managed to kill our sugar monster and dont need much in the way of desserts or sweets

There - my answer is probably longer than your post!! LOL

Yes - knowledge is much better for you than chips!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Thanks elizellen! I have a Lidl store literally 5 minutes away from me so im guna take a walk round and look for the bratwurst and the mayonnaise will probably a lot cheaper than Hellmans im guessing! I was guna ask a similar question to that in a few posts up, i do drink all my water that im meant to but during the night ive noticed that my tongue gets sooo dry but it looks as though thats a good thing? yeehaw!

Re: Newbie Day 4 of Induction, Some Questions!

Over here in Germany the jello pudding comes powdered in little boxes with no sweeteners added - only the instant type is sweetened. Most German sausages (bratwurst) are legal, although nowadays sugar is becoming a common ingredient even in bratwurst (flavor enhancer, I suppose). If you have a decent food grinder, you can make your own sausage (or even make sausage patties with pre ground meat). If you want to go the whole nine yards you can buy casings, but many recipes for sausage work fine as patties. Here are a few good ideas, I like the breakfast sausage recipe a lot:

sausage, recipes, make, sausages, making, homemade, ground, spices, seasonings, stuffed, casings, gourmet sausage-making, equipment, procedure, ingredients, grinding, mixing, stuffing, processing, sweet Italian sausage, hot, pork sausage, smoking, smokers, stuffers, meat grinders, meat grinding, curing meat, meat curing, casings, natural casings, casing, german, polish, pepperoni, salami, country, summer, recipe, stuffer, sausage maker, natural casing, homemade recipe, stuffer, smoked recipe, hog casing, equipment, sheep casing, seasoning, meat grinder, spices, meat smoker, smoker, fish smoker, other white meat, Portuguese linguica, Alsatian Christmas Sausage, breakfast sausage, Sweet Spanish Sausage, Chaurice, Ringsurf sausage ring

although I fillded with it and have come up with my own version by now

Wow, thanks for the sausagemania link! I wish I knew what some of these German sausages are made of. I would try more of them then.

yep the dry mouth is from the diuretic effect of the program. drink more water and lose more weight read the stickie in the FAQs about why water is important to lose weight and you will be drinking even more water.

Welcome to ADBB and to Atkins.

what you doing about your exercise part of the program?

get youare getting your cardio and I'm sure some resistance lifting him. unforunately when Dr Atkins says exercise to count as exercise it has to be new to you not a normal already doing activity at the same effort. can you speed up the walking and then count it as your exercise?

Since I know you are tire when you hit the sofa I will just tell you there are some get sitting and even telly watching workout plans you can do. American TV has about the same number of min of commercial as show. is your telly like that too?

our telly isnt too bad usually commercial break is around 3/4minutes.. ive had a look though and i think i might invest in a home workout dvd or something as im lucky enough that he goes for a sleep for around half an hour usually around 3 o clock so i could definetly do something then.. thanks for the suggestion on speeding the walking up im guna give it a shot, my friend goes swimming every day and she always asks me to go with her but im not sure im ready for a swimsuit yet lol really not liking the vision im having but yeah i'll let you know how the home workout dvd thing goes!
