  • Not Losing

I've been on Atkins now for 3 weeks and during the first week and a half I lost 5 pounds and this week I actually gained back 3 pounds. My daily diet consists of eggs and bacon for breakfast, salad for lunch, chicken or beef for dinner. I am getting very frustrated because I have not cheated at all. My brothers wedding is in 7 weeks and im thinking of switching to a low fat diet instead. I successfully lost almost 30 pounds when I did Atkins 2 years ago but gained it back slowly. Everytime I try to do Atkins again I dont lose anything. Did anyone else have this problem when they went back on Atkins after being off it?

I've had slower weight loss this time around. My induction netted a 7 pound loss. Keep at it though. Are you exercising and drinking enough water? Getting enough fat?

      ((((lilsunshine))))

First off, congrats on the 5 pounds lost! That's great!!
I have heard of it being more difficult for you to lose the second time around. Their's no time like the first time, I know it sounds funny LOL, when it comes to Atkins. I lost the most my first time around, but I'll take what I've got now

Okay, as for the weight gain, are you expecting TOM? I start to gain 14 days before he arrives....it stinks but it can happen. Maybe that can account for the gained weight.

I would also try to have fat/protein/veggies with every meal to help balance your bloodsugar. It doesn't have to be much, just maybe some mushrooms w/ your eggs or something like that.

Also, be careful with bacon, they can be very high on sodium and can make you retain water.

One other thing is, I will lose and at week three, I'm at a stand still. It's almost as if my body is re-adjusting to weight loss, and then it will pick back up. Maybe that's why you stopped losing.

And lastly, are you drinking all your water? The rule of thumb is 64 oz and an additional 8 for every 25 ounds you wanna lose.

I really hope this helps! Keep us posted on how it goes!

        Re: Not Losing

Thanks for all your help everyone. Im drinking over 100oz of water everyday and as far as I know im eating enough fat. I also do taebo, a mile walk, and situps 5 times a week. I would think I would be losing inches but im not even doing that. Im actually thinkin of starting Stillmans for a few days to see if it helps. Has anyone ever done it?

hi lilsunshine! you may be experiencing the wonderful P.I.S.S. (post induction stall syndrome)

          and
          http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...3&page=1&pp=10
I just went through it myself, was having some of the same doubts. I was stuck at 267 for over a week and for some reason, all of a sudden its coming off again, lost 6 pounds this past week??
I really upped my water, water water water till you can't drink anymore. I quit my caffiene dependency, *diet coke with splenda* and then also stopped drinking diet rite in its place. your menu sounds basically good, didn't see any obvious franken foods there.
how are your cravings? hopefully gone by now?
i'd say give it more time before bailing out!

it sounds a bit extreme to me and it would take a lot of joy out of eating, in my opinion.
you can't even use butter to fry the foods and there isn't any veggies either
it might work for a few days but i'd hate to see you get sick of low carbing altogether because of it

              No no no...!
PLEASE don't start looking to such extreme measures as this!! There are lots of reasons why things might not be progressing as you would like and there is no need to start resorting to alternate plans so early in the game.

It supports what's been said about the post-induction weirdness that happens. I myself went up a few pounds in week three but it all came off after.

We need to know more details about what you are eating as well.

A proper stall is when there has been no loss of inches or pounds for one complete month. Then and only then does a person look for ways to deal with their stubborm metabolism. You've lost weight in the first few weeks and you also lost weight a few years ago doing this...I doubt you have a slow metabolism.

You need to give it a little time..that's all.

Hi, lilsunshine! Congratulations on your 5 lb. loss.

You've been given some wonderful advise here!

We all want to lose weight and we all want to lose it NOW!! Sometimes its hard to be patient while our body adjusts to this new WOE/WOL. Keep in mind, none of us gained the weight overnight. It just takes some time. Be patient with yourself.

Gosh, I know this is frustrating, but please hang in there.

Like the others have said, post a menu so some of the veterans can check it out. Keep on exercising and drinking that water.

Post when you are feeling frustrated or have questions. There are lots of great people on this board who are willing to give you help.

We want you to succeed -- and you have been successful!

                Hang in there!

I know how frustrating it can be to not see a budge in the scale. Try not weighing yourself for a while and only use the measuring tape once a week, you may not be losing pounds but you are losing inches

I would stop putting pressure on yourself about how you look or what you might weigh at your brothers wedding. Just enjoy the opportunity to commune in celebration with your family. A big smile is all they need to see and you don't need to be perfect to get one.
