  • Spaghetti Squash Question?

I bought one of these the first time I did atkins a few months ago. It was round, yellow and large (slightly bigger than a coconut or something)

I went to the same store and under their label they have a different looking spghetti squash. This one is more tan colored, its large probably a foot long but its shaped like a gourd. Almost like a maraca (however you spell that shaking instrument used in music)

Is this the same thing? I didn't buy one cause I wanted to ask first.

    Re: Spaghetti Squash Question?

Averaging from 4 to 8 pounds, the cylinder shaped spaghetti squash is generally available year-round with a peak season from early fall through winter.

While a true spaghetti squash is pale ivory to pale yellow in color, in the early 1990's, an orange spaghetti squash, known as "Orangetti" was developed and this is what is frequently found in today's supermarkets. Higher in beta carotene, the orange variety is also bit sweeter than its paler counterpart, although both have a mild flavor that is easily enhanced by the food served with or on it.

A dieter's dream, a four-ounce serving of spaghetti squash has only 37 calories.

I'm wondering if what you saw this time was a butternut squash rather than a spaghetti squash.

A butternut squash is a different type of squash. If you cook that, you won't get the spaghetti strings.

This link has pics of spaghetti squashes:

              Other Vegetables
You can have one cup per day of these veggies if salad does not exceed two cups. The following vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the salad vegetables:

              artichoke
              celery root
              pumpkin
              artichoke hearts
              rhubarb
              asparagus
              chard
              sauerkraut
              bamboo shoots
              collard greens
              scallions
              dandelion
              snow peas
              bean sprouts
              dandelion greens
              spaghetti squash
              beet greens
              eggplant
              spinach
              broccoli
              hearts of palm
              string or wax beans
              broccoli rabe
              kale
              summer squash
              brussels
              kohlrabi
              tomato
              bean sprouts
              leeks
              turnips
              cabbage
              okra
              water chestnuts
              cauliflower
              onion
              zucchini
If a vegetable, such as spinach or tomato, cooks down significantly, it must be measured raw so as not to underestimate its carb count.
There are plenty of vegetables on the Induction vegetable lists. When I was on Induction, I used to refer to the list frequently whenever I read a cookbook, go grocery shopping or even when dining in restaurants.

                Re: Spaghetti Squash Question?

not only will you not get strings you will get way more carbs and higher GI food from that butternut then a spaghetti which could send you craving sweets.

Ask them for spaghetti squash your produce manager will know what it is and get it for you.
