  • I found a new Lunch!

Wow! I went to quiznos today... no I didn't eat a sub although the bread smelled sooo good.

I had a roadhouse ranch salad! It has mixed greens / roast beef / cheddar / bbq sauce / ranch dressing... it was really REALLY one of the best salads I have ever eaten

They say it has -1 net carb. Im sure the dressing and the bbq sauce does have some sugar in it but its either this or a whopper with fries... Not much selection in the small town we live in and since my job is running service calls, I cant go home to cook.

    here is the linky

I feel like that must be a misprint. Perhaps 11 typoed came out -1?

I'd say you're fine with this salad, with the possible exception of the BBQ sauce, which most likely has sugar in it. The Ranch dressing is fine, especially on the side since you can choose how much to put on, just go easy with it. Yes, I'm sure the -1 net carbs is a typo. You have the dressing, tomatoes, bbq sauce, and perhaps the cheese to count. And yes, it's better than having that burger and fries... though, the burger without the bun (no ketchup) is just fine.

You gotta do what you can, and this looks like the wiser choice.

Yeah I dont know if it is a typo or not... I dont know if it is possible to have more fiber than carbs which would give you a negative number... just dont know.

There isn't much bacon on the salad, Its mainly greens (nice variety by the way) roast beef and chedder. I know the bbq sauce is bad cause of the sugar but they put very little on it. The dressing does come in its own little cup so you can regulate how much you use. I also add jalepeno peppers to mine so I can chug 2-3 servings of water.

The only thing I didn't see in this salad that wasn't friendly was the bbq sauce. Possibly the tomatoes but I dont know since I CANT STAND TO EAT A RAW TOMATO! Yuck... so I leave the 4 cherry tomatoes in the bowl.

My choices are limted here. I have an arbys (which I get a giant roast beef with no bread) KFC (which I never eat cause I was told the chicken may contain sugar injections and the breading is almost impossible to avoid 100%) and Quiznos. Other places we have is McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Zaxbys.... all no no places.

Well maybe this will be better for OWL. Either way its a teriffic salad for the working folks out there like me.

The website seems to imply that they use low carb bbq sauce, since they mention something about subtracting sugar alcohols. Do you have a Chipotle or TGI Fridays or Chilis or something like that? They have good salads.

Re: I found a new Lunch!

First a product can not have more fiber then it does carbohydrates as fiber is a form of carbohydrate.

you got two issues going on with that dish

                1) tomotes, and salad and cheddar cheese and bbq sauce all have carbs.
                2) it is the creamy ranch dressing not the salad that is one net carb and that 1 net is followed by a * and if you go to the bottom of thier page in tiny print it says
*Net Carbohydrates = Total Carbohydrates - (minus) dietary fiber - (minus) alcohol sugars

Subway has a grilled chicken and baby spinach salad that I tried today and it was really good! You can also tell them what you want on it - I added some cheese, a little red onion, bacon and had ranch dressing. Yum!

Burger places are Atkins friendly, provided they use 100% meat. Order your burger, toss the bun. You aren't obligated to order the fries and soda. In fact, McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's offer "side salads", which will help round out your bunless burger meal.

As 2Big wrote don't be fooled into thinking that it has -1 net carb. All vegetables have carbs.

Re: I found a new Lunch!

It looks like Quiznos has followed suit with Arbys and Subway, and cancelled their low-carb options. Not only that, they didn't just leave the salads alone, they decided to add in chopped "flatbread". As if we didn't get enough bread options with their subs, I guess they think the average American consumer needs their refined starch fix in a salad too--so they just chop up a sub with bread and call it a "salad". Roadhouse Ranch was my favorite Quiznos salad too, and it's gone. Now they have options that include raspberries and other syrupy sweet nonsense.

It never occured to me that Subway and Arbys had discontinued their low-carb options until I read their nutrional information on their respective websites. I figured so long as they continued to offer wraps, they would be lowcarb as they originally were intended to be. But no! The wraps are just plain whole wheat now at Arbys, and Subway has moved to a flour tortilla. 40-50+ carbs each, depending on what you order.

Well, that bites, but I guess most people have moved from "the low carb craze" to whatever is popular for weight loss now. And I have to admit that most people still think of a salad as not filling, "diet" food, no matter what it's made of.

Although, I do have to say that I kind of like fruit in my salad. Did you ever try any of the various Asian salads with mandarin segments and chicken? So good. I am really craving fruit fruit right now, being on Induction.
