  • Pleae don't hate me!

Please don't hate me. I have a feeling these questions have been answered somewhere before. At some point I'll sit down and read the sticky's. However, I have a 3 month old and a 17 month old so I don't get a lot of down time.
-Can I get a difinitive answer on the bars? My book says they're O.K. They say on the bars themselves that they are approved for the induction stage. Why do you say there not to be used during the induction period?
-Can you eat too little carbs? Yesterday at the end of the day I had only eaten 12.5 carbs (I did have two cups salad and one cup cooked veggies). Is it O.K.?
-Will my weight fluctuate during the induction phase. I was excited that I had lost 3lbs. after the first day. Since then I have gained 2 back. Is this normal? (I have been a bit constipated, but I took something for that today). I appreciate anyone who takes the time to answer me. Thanks & Happy Eating!

We would never hate you Teresa...we're all about the love here.

The bars are out...no bars during induction. You need to get most of your 20 gms of carbs from veggies.

As long as you are eating all your veggies, don't worry about too few carbs. Try some veggies with higher carb content though. They are also better for you.

Your weight will fluctuate...stay off the scale for the whole 2 week induction. Make sure to take your starting measurements though to see how many inches you will also lose.

    Welcome.

      Teresa,

The bars are out for induction for a couple of reasons. The first is that they contain ingredients that are not on the approved foods list. The second is that they are very processed and Dr. Atkins wanted us to eat unprocessed foods that have natural vitamins and minerals in them. The third is that eating the bars in a pinch will certainly help, but if you rely on them, then you aren't really learning new eating habits. I hope that helps.

        Re: Pleae don't hate me!

My experience with the bars is they set off terrible cravings instead of helping me get over my "carb snack" addiction. My atkins journey became easier, less stressful, and successful, once I parted ways with them.

Not to mention 1 bar costs almost as much as a bag of salad! If you need a snack try cheese sticks, pepperoni (watch the salt though), veggies like celery or cucumber, or anything portable that you really like. You're doing great with your veggies, though, yay for you! Keep that acceptable foods list handy and keep in mind that if it's not on the list, it's not for you! Also, weight fluctuations are normal. Keep drinking your water and try to wait at least a week before you weigh.
