  • How to count carbs?

Is there a rule of thumb or a website that everyone goes to to get carb amounts in veggies and such? The book I have is called Atkins Essentials and it basically just walks you through a 2 week induction. According to the book 1/2 cup zucchini is 1 net carb. However, on the Atkins website it's 2.2 net carbs. On fitday I sometimes can't find the food I'm looking for (such as zucchini sauteed). Where can I get reliable carb counts?
I appreciate any replies given!! Thanks

I use fitday, and yes, it can be daunting, finding carb counts on things. For the zuccini, I would most likely just find zuccini, boiled or however they have it, or raw, then find whatever you cooked it in, like butter, and put both in. Sometimes all we can do is get as close as we can. Stay consistant with the place/method you use and you should be okay. If i just CAN'T find something, I go by the package and make a custom item on fitday. Maybe someone else has a better place or idea, but that's what I do, and I'm losing!

I do the same thing as Jasmain. For example, if you sautee a cup of zuchinni, I would put in 1 cup raw zuchinni into fitday, then if you sauteed with 1 T. of butter I would add that in as a separate entry. Does that make sense?

the site is www.fitday.com and it is free. some folk use the USDA food lists and they now have a downloadable feature.
