honestly, the only thing that will cure your sweet tooth is to resist the cravings and feed yourself only acceptable foods. i've been on this woe for 5 weeks and i haven't even wanted a diet soda. sweet things just hold no interest for me anymore. however, if it's between an acceptable treat and blowing your diet for a cookie there are some recipes in the recipe forum that people make on occasion - some of them are induction friendly. my advice, though, is to resist and the cravings will subside. congrats on your loss so far!

I keep a batch of cinnamon flax cookies in the fridge. When I get a craving I eat one.. But don't worry, the cravings do go away. Good luck!

The best thing to do is to starve that sweet tooth to death. The cravings will go away. For some people, even eating acceptable sweets made with splenda can trigger worse cravings. You've done so well losing so much in only a week. That's excellent. Don't let something as stupid as sweets bring you down. Try eating cheese or a devilled egg. Your body will get all that fat and say, mmmmm, finally, you fed me something yummy!

I just want to re-iterate what everyone else has said here actually.

If you can keep your cravings for sweet stuff underwraps for atleast another week you will be amazed how quickly you are no longer tempted.

Honestly, trust me it really does work.

              Re: I need the sweets!

you'll get opinions on both sides i guess. mine is that if you feel you're going to cheat if you don't get something check out the dessert and snack forum here. We've got several quick to fix things for a sweet attack, mock danish, flax cookies are just a couple. When I started induction i used these quite a bit. But now for some reason i don't crave them at all! And whatever you do , don't eat the bad bad franken chocolate they have out there! Thats how i quit atkins the second time, they increased my cravings and my weight loss completely stalled. *not to mention some other bad side effects in the bathroom if you know what im mean!!*
once again the treats are to be used in moderation, more in emergencies, like someone said before, if you can grab a piece a bacon that might take care of it too!

                Re: I need the sweets!

I usually can do fine without sweet things but before my period I can actually kill for some.
I solved my problem with heavy cream whipped and frozen with some sweetener. ( only two spoons a day during induction, dont forget) I also have a bar of Atkins advantage, and if Im really really in need I have a small bite. I have the same bar since I started the program more than 3 weeks ago.
I think it is worse now because you cant eat fruit, with time it will pass.

I agree with the 'starve the sweet monster' approach especially during induction. You've got one week down already so just give yourself one more week without feeding the beast! See how you feel after that. If sweets are a real trigger for you, just proceed with caution even if we are allowed three servings of artificial sweetener per day.

Yup the Best way is to Stay away But, I can't say too much I remeber my Cravings being soo Horrendous during TOM I had to ahve something in my first month and a few times after. I found having Cream cheese with cocoa in it and splenda helped it's very fatty so you feel satisfied and the coco gives you the cholcolate.

I've had 3 oz cream cheese mixed with a tablespoon of splenda, one egg, cinnamon, and two tablespoons of pure pumpkin out of the can <not pumpkin pie mix> stir that all together and put in a bowl that will leave the mix about 1-2 inches thick <so pick a tuppeware bowl that is sorta wide but not TOO wide>. Cook it in the microwave for about 3-4 minutes until done. Then, put it in the fridge and let it get cold. I swear you would think you were eating pumpkin pie. This can be a dangerous habbit..so don't do it TOO often!

                          Re: I need the sweets!

You NEED the sweets? I think you can question this affirmation.
What have sweets in the past done for you that was so great?

Listen to what your body needs. It needs foods that keep it in balance. It needs off the sweet roller coaster.

In the beginning you live on faith. In the near future you won't have to fight it all the time anymore. You will naturally crave healthy foods and they will taste sweet enough.

Keep going and stay away from sweets and the scale.

Induction is itself the cure to your sweet tooth!
Your body doesn't need the sweets and you, well you actually want them but surely do not need them
if you feel in need of sweets, question yourself and listen to your body, it's probably telling you something; Sweets have been in the past your way to answer to your body and in the long term it bacame a habit your body got used to
Now there's no other way to 'solve the matter' of bad habits that cut them out, drop them completely. REplace them with good habits and our body will be soon in need of these one instead.
Breaking those habits is the starting point for this new WOL! If we don't consciously chuck them out, they will stay with us troughout induction, OWL, pre-mantainance and even mantainance, functioning as emotional links below our conscious! There is not point in shorten them, slow them down, bend them, weaken them.......JUST BREAK THEM!

ya i am pretty much just going to restate what most other people have said.....

i know it sucks hardcore but giving into a sweet tooth isn't worth it i have been having MAJOR cravings for chocolate and sweets....but i just drink some water and do something like go to the bank, or go walk to campus, or clean my livingroom, do my laundry, etc etc and the craving then passes.... i know there are some things that are accepable to eat that are also sweet but you really want to break you're love of sweets...obviously for most people (or for me at least) the cravings wil never go away 100% but they will get less and less and less and soon out of habit and taste you won't even want sweets....

another way to think of it is as an addiciton. You wouldn't tell an alocholic to just take a sip or a smoker to have one puff of a light cig. And in reality for a lot of us food (esp sweet food) is an addiction, one of the hardest to break.

                              i hope that helps
