  • I am so scared

Hello all. I was once on Atkins lost about 40 pounds had some medical problems went off stayed off and am now heavier than I have ever been in my life. I am not working now and to be honest am afraid to go on any interviews because of my size. I am going to start Atkins induction tomorrow morning but I am just scared of all the things I've been hearing about lo-carb diets. Funny thing is that they work for me. I don't mean to be a cry baby but I am really having some anxiety over this. My doctor says it's the best way and she has lost lots of weight. I am so tired of being heavy and have thought about WW, nutrisys, etc. I got on the scale yesterday at the docs at weighed in at 306...

Oh my GOD!! How did I let this happen to myself.

Please please- any words to the wise would be appreciated. Any support groups in East Tennesse that I can attend? I have got to do something. I'm scared.

Hey Kelley, good for you for coming here! thats the first step, truly. Do you have a copy of DANDR? if not, get one and make it your friend. If you are scared about what you have heard about low-carbbing.... take a look around at some of the posts about cholesterol, some of the posts in the maintence forum, the health forum. If you are still leery after that, make a commitment to give it an honest 2 weeks. most of us can do anything for 2 weeks.

Support- oneo f the mods made some posts this week concerning mentors. take a look at those posts and see if that is something that could help you.

you can do it. you made it this far.

        Kelley,
I know how you feel about being scared, but we have to be positive about us, our lives and how we have decided to change them.
You are here, you are starting, that is the most important thing. Every pound lost will be gone forever, think about that.
        all the best for you

          Re: I am so scared

There are many naysayers of low carbs diets, but you know what? Our forefathers didn't eat all this refined sugar and manufactured foods. It's only in the last century since these foods were produced that so many weight related health conditions have gotten so much worse than at any other time in history.

Atkins teaches us how our bodies react to certain foods, what our bodies need and DO NOT need. Personally, I think that if God intended us to eat all this junk food, there'd be a tree or other plant that grows them.

Look around the forum and read the success stories. People are not only looking good, they are feeling good, too. Cholesterol is down. People have gone off of their diabetes medicines, high blood pressure pills, etc. Definitely get the book and read about HOW and WHY this way of life works. You'll be glad you did.

Honey, most people who trash talk the Atkins diet are those who have never been on it or been on it for any reasonable length of time. This forum is FULL of people who have lost weight the Atkins way and are in better health than ever before. Not only that but you won't feel hungry because you can eat until you are satifisfied. What have you got to lose (except weight), try it seriously for a month and see the difference in the way you look and feel. This is the ONLY diet (now WOE) that works for me and produces positive results in everyway. You can do this! This board is superb at giving you the daily booster shot in the arm when you need the encouragement. Come on girl, join us!

                  Re: I am so scared

Give yourself a hug and tell yourself there is absolutely nothing to be scared about.

You would simply be undoing the damage that has been done to your body by eating unhealthy foods - foods that your body doesn't know how to process as anything but stored fat.

The other day I told a new friend I follow Atkins and he told me, "oh, I could never give up vegetables!"

                  LOL!!!!

I eat more veggies living this lifestyle than I ever did as a carb junkie.
There are many people who speak out against Atkins who actually have no clue as to what we really eat.

Think of it this way. All you would be doing is giving up horribly overprocessed food like white flour and sugar and switching to a healthy way of life where you eat wholesome meats, fish, eggs, veggies and a little bit of cheese.

If you told someone I'm on a diet where I don't eat overprocessed food like white flour and sugar, would they even blink an eye? That stuff is no good for anyone and everybody knows it.

Your body will be in heaven on Atkins, and so will you, because as soon as your body figures out you are going to keep feeding it healthy food, it is going to start releasing those extra fat stores.

Don't be afraid, just get started now. I encourage you to read the 2002 DANDR, and all the stickies at the top of this forum. I also encourage you to join the Century Club because those folks are extremely loving and supportive of each other. This website is a wonderful place to hang out where you will be welcomed with open arms and no judgements.

                    Re: I am so scared

                    Kelley,

You SHOULD be scared. at 306lbs and 5'3" you are in danger of perhaps losing your life. Time to make a decision to live. If your doctor even tells you to do the low carb way, its time to get serious about it don't you think?

You don't need a support group in TN. You have all of us here at ADBB!!! You need to lose almost 200lbs, that will probably take 2 years to do. The journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step though.

                    Take that first step!

This WOL need you to be strong and focused
always, replace your negative attitude with a positive one
in this case replace your fear with courage
and by doing this bear in mind that courage is not at all lack of fear, only the ability to face it!!!
You've already aknowledge your fear, accept it and replace it, it will work for atkins and for everything else!
                          good luck
