  • Induction disappointment

I have just sone 14 days induction and was very pleased to lose 4 1/2 lbs in the first week and so disappointed this morning to find I'd only lost 1/2 lb this week. I'm following all the rules as I should and don't know why I've lost so little. Can any one help?

Well, have you been using Fitday?? Have you eaten any of the Atkins bars or shakes? I have heard on this site they can really slow you down. Have you been drinking water and exercising?? Maybe you could post a menu of what you ate in a day to get a look at it. Hope you stick with this WOL!!! GOOD LUCK!!
What would we do without it?

    Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

      Re: Induction disappointment

      Leonie,

That's COMPLETELY normal. I lost 6 lbs the first week of induction and then nothing the second week. I paniced, but I stuck with the program and continued to lose steadily. Some people don't lose anything on induction, but still do great. Some lose during the two weeks of induction, stall for 3-4 weeks, and start losing again. It's all fine, JUST STICK WITH IT!!!!

Also, you don't say how much you have to lose. 4.5 lbs may represent a significant percentage of your total weight to lose. And, your body is going through some major changes right now, so the scale will slow and fluctuate week to week. The important thing is that it will keep moving steadily DOWN.

I know it's hard, but take a deep breath and STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE!!

          Re: Induction disappointment

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Well firstly I have lost 42 lbs on a low fat diet and then stopped dead and have stayed the same since last July. Then at Christmas I put on half a stone. So I am 5' 6" , SW 169lbs, CW164lbs, GW 147lbs. So still 18 lbs to go. I haven't eaten any bars or shakes and I don't know what Fitday is but I do drink plenty of water and run/walk 4 times a week.
          Any help?

I think you've done GREAT!!! It's not a race. Keep with the program and you'll shrink....don't forget inches come off as well. Good luck.

              Re: Induction disappointment

Since you've already lost a lot of weight, and only have 18 pounds to go 4.5 lbs lost for induction is great. You're right on track for where you need to be.

Good job on no bars/water/exercise. www.fitday.com is a place you can track your food that gives you percentages of fat/carb/protein and total carbs. A lot of people find it useful to make sure that you're balancing your Atkins correctly. But I've very rarely used it.

                Re: Induction disappointment

The last 20 pounds or so that someone has to lose come off relatively slowly. You lost about a quarter of what you wanted to lose total during induction, which is wonderful. The closer to goal you are, the less weight your body will give up. By the time most of us get to that last 18 pounds, we're in the OWL phase or pre-maintenance. Just give it time, if you've done the two weeks of induction and only have 18 pounds to go, it might be a good idea to move on to OWL. You need those last few pounds to take a while and go to OWL so you can do the diet properly and give yourself long enough to find your CCLL and CCLM, as well as find out how different foods you add will effect you.

Do you have the book? It is invaluable as reference for each phase, and having it is a MUST. You will need the information in that book on hand daily at some times.

                  Re: Induction disappointment

you have don a phenomenal job losing weight already. the amount you lose is relative to the amount you need to lose ususally 5-10% during the 14 day induction period, you have more then doubled that with over 21% lost. for a 300+ pounder like me that would have been over 32 pounds. Congratulations so the great job you have done.

I hope you have made friends with your tapemeasure and saw the inches of fat being shed while your boby was morphing ading muscle mass and fluid massmade the scale say no change.

Every pound you lose from here on out will be equivalant to over 8 pounds for a 300+ pounder so you can see it isn't going to be a scale loss every day or even every week.

Dr Atkins says to do both aerobic and anerobic exercise as part of our Atkins plan. the brisk walking will do for your aerobic but you will need to add some resistance training too.

Happy low carbing you big loser.
