    Hi!

In DANDR - the good doc says that caffeine is a problem. I've been able (in the past) to keep black regular coffee in the diet. However, I worry that it is hampering weight loss. I tend to be a Starbucks esspresso nut.

Anyone have specific caffeine stories like: "I kicked caffeine and the weight started to fly off" or "I dranke java the whole way through and got to my goal weight"?

I started Atkins on Feb. 13th. I used to be a addictive coffee drinker. I drank it all day long!!! I decided to try this WOL the way the good Dr. A wanted me to, so I quit the coffe. I have lost 12 pounds so far, and I feel great without the coffee!!! You can do it, you don't need the coffe. This WOL will give you all the energy you need!! Good Luck!
What would we do without it?

        Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

Started this WOL on Feb. 13, 2006.

          Re: Caffeine

I suffered from lots of blood sugar fluctuations before Atkins and I found that by switching to decaf and eating at regular intervals I stay on a much more even keel through my day.

Also, oddly enough, I still get as excited over my morning cup of decaf as I ever did when I was drinking regular coffee. I'd think it was full caff if I wasn't the one who bought, opened the can and made the coffee and knew it was decaf!

I'm with Moochie. I was drinking way too much caffeine before I started this woe and went cold turkey when I started Atkins. I wanted to be successful and do it by the book. I had killer withdrawal headaches. I still love coffee and drink a cup or two every day. It's just decaf. now. Decaf espresso too. Yum!

Think about it this way Thinker:
              (Great nick by the way!)

Everytime you drink caffeine your body gets a false high.

I say false because this is a high that doesn't last.

Your high is soon followed by a devasting fall.

A dip even lower than before you drank the first cup of coffee.

              Then guess what you want?

Thats right, another cup of coffee.

So you drink another cup and the process starts all over again.

Up and down and up and down and up and down...

Your body never gets a chance to get off the roller coaster.

Giving up coffee for me was the hardest step of all and the most rewarding.

I couldn't believe how much better I felt without those constant ups and downs.

Switch to decaf. It will only be hard at first. Your body will love being free from it. Then you will love it too.

                Re: Caffeine

Some people complain that they don't like decaf and they can tell that it's not regular coffee.....bf and I aren't big coffee connesieurs (I can't even spell the word...lol) but we did find the brand we were buying to be a little weak. It's a great price though (and I'm really cheap...lol) but what I did was buy a pound of some really delicious rich dark decaf (Starbucks Christmas Blend...mmmm) and mix 2:1 the bargain and the Starbucks. It makes it richer and tastier.

I have one cup a day. With 2 little ones keeping me up all hours of the day and night I feel I deserve a cup. What kills me though is the carb build up of a cup of coffee.

                  One cup-1 carb
                  1.5 Splenda-1.5 carbs
                  1 ounce cream-1 carb

That's 3.5 carbs all used up on just my morning coffee- that's why I only drink one!

                    Re: Caffeine

Hey. If *I* can do it so can you. I LOVE coffee. I'm a HUGE fan. I live in San Francisco and there's and independent coffee shop on every other block.

That said... coffee IS an addiction just like your carb addiction.

You can do both in the first three days (like I do). Go on induction and you'll kick the carb and caffeine addiction in 3 days. You'll feel like **** but after the three days you'll feel AMAZING.

My advice is to do it over the weekend though. I tried to do it at work and made a few mistakes in code that made it into production. Stuff I'd NEVER do...

                      Re: Caffeine

caffeine is an insulin stimulating compound which will effect your blood sugar and store fats.
And if you are a coffee drinker you should know coffee both regular and decafe contain chemicals that raise LDL ( the bad stuff) cholesterol.

Give it up and do you self a favor.
