  • A little confused??

Hi! I'm in my second week of induction. I thought I knew what I was doing but... If I have say ranch dressing and it has 1 carb and that carb comes from sugar am I not allowed to have it?? I thought it was OK as long as I made sure to count it as part of my 20 carbs. The more I look at these posts, the more I am starting to think I was mistaken. Am I only allowed to have things that have no carbs from sugar?? Thanks for answering in advance!

No, the Ranch is fine. You really just want to limit the carbs from sugar because you want the bulk of your carbs to come from your veggies and some from cheeses, etc. You want to choose foods from the legal list. Some of those, for instance bacon, can still have sugar added to them. That is when you want to carefully look at the label and ingredients. If there are 2 products, 1 with 3 grams of sugar and the other with 1 gram, you would want to choose the one with the lesser amount of sugar.

Bottomline, stay legal, stay under 20, eat enough veggies and drink your water. All the other 'fine tuning' will work it's way into your habits as you educate yourself and move along this way of eating!

**Remember to subtract grams of fiber from you total carbs so that you get 'net carbs'. Youwantto keep your 'net carbs' under 20.

Oh yes, and remember to pay careful attention to portion sizes until you really get a feel for them!

the sugar you are looking to avoid is in the ingredients list. the sugar in the nutritional label can be naturally occuring like the sugars in the veggies.
