  • The Story So Far (and why i'm back :p)

    Hi ADBB

Some of you might've seen my before/after pics a while back (http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...d.php?t=20471), showing me 23 kilos (ie 50 pounds) after 8 weeks of pure induction. I did the induction between May and July 2005.

Here's the story since then: After July 2005, I thought that would stop doing Atkins, and go to a low cal diet with gym and stuff. At the end of induction I weighed 210 pounds. All my clothes fit, and I had a small tummy but that didn't show unless I sat down or pushed it out I felt great!!

So, at 210 pounds (95kg) I stopped Atkins and just went on to a different life style from my pre-atkins days. No more chocolates/nuts/crips etc, lots of gym and swimming and stuff like that. This was July 2005. I was hoping I'd reach my target of 175 pounds (80kg) with my new life style.

And now, we're March 2006, ie 8 months after stopping induction, and guess how much I weigh now? EXACTLY 210 pounds!! ie I have lost NOTHING. Not one single pound!! And trust me, I didn't eat "unhealthy" things, I go to the gym 3 times a week, I do swimming, have 3 "sensible" meals, etc etc etc!

So, here I am back again, with my tail between my legs, starting the WONDERFUL Atkins Diet again today with induction. I can't wait to dig in to my fry up and my steaks and lose weight at the same time! But what's really exciting is the energy boost that'll kick in in a few days, God do I remember it from last year, it was great waking up half an hour before the alarm and actually enjoying going to work (nearly bouncing all the way!).

I'm going to do induction again for at least 4 weeks, cos to be honest last year I had no ill effects of it whatsoever, and I enjoyed every bit of it. Judging by last year I hope to lose about 25 pounds during these 4 weeks, making me just 10 pounds away from the big 175!
And after the 4 weeks? ATKINS FOR LIFE OFCOURSE!

Thanks for accepting me back ADBB

Welcome back to our ADBB family

Are you going to move through OWL and premaintenance after induction or just jump straight from induction to atkins for life menus?

I have found very beneficial doing OWL as Dr Atkins suggested, as I have been able to see how the different foods affect me while still losing weight.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

My heart stopped for a second there. I thought you were going to say that you gained it all back! So good for you on maintaining, b/c that's tough to do without Atkins (just my opinion). I would do as Elizellen says and go through the OWL rungs and then onward. You will end up at the same place you were hoping to be last summer, but it will be much easier. Welcome back!

Good job keeping the weight off! A very good by-product of doing *all* of the Atkins phases is that you understand what foods can affect your weight. I'm sure, even though you were eating "healthy" last year, you were either 1) eating something that reduced your chances of continued weight loss or 2) eating too many calories to sustain weight loss.

This time around, try all the phases and then go back to your healthy diet. I'm sure you will have success in the long run.
