      Ciao ciaobella,

if I can give my 2 cent, there's not a way to cut down when it's about bad habits.
cut out completely is the only way. I used to drink as much coffeee as you do and stopped from one day to another one. the first few days I suffered from a terrible headache and felt sleepy especially in the morning but after that, I am now caffeine free since december, energy came back, I don;t need the alarm clock to wake me up and do not feel tired all day long!

oops thats a bit too much...cut down please or u will hit a stall
gala is very right about eliminating it ..but if u cant do it right away do it gradually
what i do to keep my caffine intake in control is if i make one cup of tea..i take it in three breaks..
like every after 15 minutes i was a total caffine addict before but now i take small amounts and then the half cup i take i leave half of it in it..

If you kick that coffee habit, you will be so glad!! Not only is coffee expensive, you don't need it on this WOL!! I used to drink coffee all day long, and on my third or fourth day on Induction, I kicked the habit!! Its an artificial high, it doesn't really give you energy, it just seems like it does. That is a lot of carbs to waste on drinking! You could be eating yummy veggies!!!

if you have to go to work kicking on a friday and by Monday you should be fine of coiurse your family will not like their wrecked weekend.

Are you decafing it? the tea decafed after your water is great cause tea has good for HDL chems in it that help cholesterol. Coffee has bad ones though

              hey
thanks all for ur advice.....it's not the caffine i am worried about...since i only drink herbal tea and one-two cups of caffinated coffee...i am trying to ease my way off of caffine in general...it's the added carbs!!! i though that coffee had no carbs....but i was wrong...and 5 is a lot of carbs esp when u are trying to stay around 15-18 carbs a day..... i guess the only thing u can really dink a lot of and not have extra carbs sneak in is water......

I'm there with you on the coffee thing. I drank about 64oz/day and couldn't figure out why the scale wasn't moving - when I KNEW I hadn't eaten too many carbs. I didn't realize coffee had carbs. I'm half decaffeinated and am drastically cutting down intake in general. Now, if I keep it to one mug in the morning I'll have a cappuccino later in the day, counting the carbs in the milk carefully. Latte is better but has more milk so I compromised! It's not the caffeine I want. It's the taste and the smell. I just love it.

Yankee, are you still on Induction?? If so, milk is not allowed. I don't mean to be nosy, but I didn't know if you knew that. I think you have to work up to the dairy rung, and even then I don't know how much milk is allowed. I just quit the coffee. I love it, but I am doing great without it! Its not as bad as you think to give it up, really.

ya i used to have breve caps...but i was drinking WAY too much cream so i gave it up for lent...along with cheese...and diet soda..(as long as the diet soda doesn't get in the way of my weightloss)...thats a long story that i won't post here for newbies sake....

anyhoo...i have decided to only drink a total of 30 oz of coffee this week (it'll go down slowly) i really don't want to give it up totally...i love going to tryst and such and i am not ready to give up my coffee dates and such...i just need to cut down..and tea and decaf coffee have about the same carb count so it won't matter which one i give up...i really am alright as long as i limit myself...which i think i can do

i just went out with a group of my friends and we were chatting about coffee...mainly b/c i had that to drink while they ate some pasta and calzones (we were in meetings on lobby reform alllllll frekkin day so they were starving...i packed snacks and waited till i was home) anyways one of my friends who was more additicted than i said she gave up caffine compelety and now when she needs it...ie a brief needs to be written or an exam she just needs one small coffee to get 'er done....i am want to get to that point!

i hope everyone has a good night....

No, sunflowergrl, I'm not on Induction. It's a sort of induction which I hesitate to say out loud as "by the book" is so strict for some. By continuing to cut out ALL things I love I drove myself crazy - this works for some but not for me. If I carefully count carbs and stay away from the breads and starches, etc that play havoc with blood sugars I can rationalize my 1/4 cup of milk in my very small cappuccino. In trying to get rid of that as well I ended up blowing off the diet altogether. It's a small treat that keeps me sane. Most of the time anyway!
