  • Scales going down!!!

I had a very tempting weekend, but still had success. Today is day 6 on induction and I've lost 5 lbs already. I was afraid because I did a few no-no's that I thought would surely mess me up, but I still lost 1 lb over the weekend. On Friday, our friends had my husband and I over for a cookout. We were really afraid because we didn't want to be rude and not eat whatever they were having if it wasn't part of our diet. They grilled chicken, which was good, but they also grilled corn on the cob, and some seasoned vegetables(potatoes, onions, squash), and some rolls. My husband and I avoided the rolls, but did eat the corn on the cob and the seasoned veggies(which included a few small potatoes). Then they brought out this delicious dessert, which was just a jello and cool-whip concoction, however, it was regular jello. They didn't even ask if we wanted dessert, they just had them in individual dessert cups and set them in front of us. So trying not to be rude again, we ate it. I can't lie, it was delicious and I did enjoy it. But I wasn't very happy that I had to jeopardize my diet just to spend time with some friends. But I also don't want people to feel like they have to make food just to fit our diet....which makes Atkins tough and awkward. My husband loved that dessert so much that we went and got the sugar free jello and made the jello dessert ourselves. It is sooooooooooo good. BUT....after reading some of the posts on here, I think we should stay away from it until later on in the weight loss phase.
I am excited to think that at this weight loss rate, I should lose about about 12-13 lbs by the end of day 14 of induction.

    Re: Scales going down!!!

well congrats on the loss but
there is nopthing rude about not eating a food someone serves you. sharing a meal is about the love and freindship you share not the actual food on the table. if you were allergic to that food would you have felt it rude to refuse to poison yourself with it? of course not. Value yourself and the work you have been doing taking control of your eating and don't have foods you shouldn't be eating.

Next time call and ask abiout the foods tell them y'all are working on your health and volunteer to bring some dish y'alkl can share as part of your Atkins eating like a bif salad.

    Happy low carbing.

I agree with 2big. I don't think anyone would mind if you told them in advance.

This was a good lesson learned for the next time you go for dinner at friends, wasn't it? Soomething similar happened to me on day 2 of Atkins when we were at friends. They served Shepherd's Pie and salad, so I had a big bowl of salad and just the insides of the pie, not the potatos. They were so excited for me that I was making a change and so apologetic about not catering to me better...lol
I told them as long as there was salad and meat that I'd be just fine.

I will usually ask if I can bring a salad and I also bring along my own dessert as well so I can enjoy something while others enjoy theirs.

good job on the weight loss!!! i completely understand how tricky it is to be out at friends houses for meals and not feel awkward....mine tend to look at me like i'm crazy and then make some loud obnoxious comments like "OH I'D NEVVVVVVER GO WITHOUT SUGAR, THATS JUST CRAZY" or "WHYYYYYY?!?!?" etc. etc. and it makes me look like a freak. Oh well. I will just keep laughing it off and then i will laugh even harder once I reach my goal weight!! good luck with the rest of your induction !
