  • i know we're counting carbs not cals but...

today my tally was about 2500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ate all good foods, not too much sweetener or anything not allowed, but wtf?

I know that it isn't supposed to matter, but I just can't see how there isn't some sort of general calorie guideline for atkins? i know we should eat til we're full and no more, but doing that allllll the way up to 2500 cals??? 1000 more and i'd put ON a lb!!! I mean, i'm at my heaviest now at 135 and I'm only 5'4"! this has just got to be too much for me right??

arg i feel so disoriented and confused...it's so tempting to just try going back to the old ways of just trying to eat 1200 or less. Except....obviously that did NOT work

    please advise!!

In my opinion, calorie counting is not something you should be concerned about at all while learning to do induction.

Part of the Atkins healing process is learning not to obsess about every little detail when it comes to food. We can trust our bodies to know what to do with the right fuel.

It is helpful to recognize that all the harmful habits we picked up from calorie counting and low fat dieting rules no longer apply. We allow those neurotic dieting behaviors to wash out of our systems along with the fat stores.

Eat everything you are supposed to on induction and stay full. Count the carbs. Only the carbs.

Stay away from the scale. You can go down complete sizes and show no movement on the scale whatsoever. Rely on your tape measure and after you have been eating the Atkins way at least a month go try on some new clothing. Does it matter if the scale tells you that you weigh 150, if you are wearing your dream size?

Dr Atkins knew what he was doing. Our part is following the rules of induction, eating everything we are supposed to and giving our body time to make the change to a healthier state of being.

thanks so much for such a great response--- i think my head is just kind of messed up from all the random diets and "plans" i've tried-counting calories, only eating certain foods at certain times, eating nothing, you know how it goes----- the thought that I should just do what feels right for these two weeks and stay under 20 carbs makes me feel so much better -- esp. to hear from someone who's lost so much weight!!! thanks again

yep concentrate on your body and really listeneing to it. Learn yor hunger signals and listen to only them as far as feeing yourself goes they need food eat they stop you stop eating. you will be amazed at how far those cals will drop on not hungry days which is why Dr Atkins added the 6hr rule with a small blood sugsar stabilizing snack of proteins/fasts with some of yur good carbs.

        Happy low carbing.

I've thought about the same thing myself. Then I had to realize, since this plan ratio is made of 65% fat..and fat = calories, then it is inevitable to wind up intaking more calores than normal. Realize though, that we are burning fat for fuel now instead of carbs..so it isn't like it's all going to your hips.

I would go insane if I had to count calories too. My self diagnosed ADD will only let me focus on one diet detail at a time.

                There's this saying...

                "Empty the cup."

There are lots of things you will have to unlearn while on this WOE. Being obsessive about calorie counts is one of them. Fear of fats is another. There is a learning process to this WOE. But if you wish to fill your cup, you must empty it of it's old contents first.
