  • 3 weeks of induction gained 3 lbs. :-(

I have followed induction for 3 weeks. Watched my carbs. However I did not watch my calories and have not been excercising. I have not eaten anything I should not have. Fitday is below. Needless to say, I am very upset.

    Hi Ilene

I see quite a few things that you could easily tweak.

At 144lbs, eating upwards of 1900-2300 calories a day and not exercising isn't likely to produce weight loss.

-The bars and shakes. These things are best left on the grocery store shelves. Please, do a search on "Advantage Bars" and "Shakes" and take the time to read some of what you find. They're notorious for stalling weight loss, causing cravings, breaking you financially (LOL), and they don't help us work with or around eating whole, natural foods. If it requires a degree in chemical engineering to pronounce the ingredients- it's best left uneaten!

-Pork rinds. They're just fine on occasion - but they're high calorie and high sodium. The high calorie portion of it isn't bad if you limit yourself to a portion, but they add up quick, and they're always high in sodium.

-Lots of coffee and cream. Again, please do a search on coffee and make some decisions about keeping it or tossing it.

-It doesn't look like you are eating to satisfy your appetite. It looks like you're eating sometimes. I know as a 150lb woman who exercises regularly that eating 1lb of porkribs would have me absolutely stuffed. You should never be hungry, but you shouldn't be full either.

-Sodium laden foods: These won't cause fat gain, but they will cause water retention! Pepperoni, sausage, pork rinds, etc etc. I find it best to eat these things occasionally.

-Exercise. This is a non-negotiable part of the program. Get moving!

Just some stuff off the top of my head.

Thanks Brook. The bars say that they are safe for Phase 1 but I will stop eating them and the shakes. The calories are high but I'm eating until I am satisfied. I thought I did not have to count the carbs on Induction. I am eating a lot of salty foods, lox, porl rinds, pepperoni, boiled eggs w/salt. I have not started excercising but it shouldn't mean a 3 lb. weight gain. I weigh more now then when I started! I'm ready to cry.

Yep, the bars say that. Remember this though: There are no such thing as mythical magical carbs that don't count. Sugar alcohols DO impact blood sugar and the bars are still full of chemical crap. Remember also that those things are being marketed to you. If weight loss could really be found in bars and shakes, anyone who's ever tried Slim Fast would be skinny. How many people do you know that lost weight, and more importantly kept it off, eating bars and shakes?

It's taking you 8-16oz of meat to feel not hungry anymore? Not full. You're not supposed to eat until you're full, but until you're not hungry anymore. It's a tough thing to learn for most of us. Eat half of what's on your plate, then come back to it in 30 minutes and eat more if you're still hungry. Give yourself that option, but you will likely find you won't eat as much.

Eating all that sodium and eating high calorie like you are while not exercising can absolutely mean a weight gain. Don't fool yourself. Dr. Atkins said we don't have to count calories - but he *never* said calories don't count.

with all the salt and water u are consuming u could be just retaining a LOT of h20..... pee and poop and weigh yourself and see what happens.....

it's also going to take a longer for u to lose weight as ur are closer to your goal than a lot of other people...the closer u are the slower the loss....sucks i know but what can u do.....

cut down on salt and see if that helps

I agree with Brook and Ciaobella! Get rid of the bars and shakes, and quit the coffee and all the processed foods like lunchmeat and pepperoni. I would also try to get some better veggies in. Lettuce really doesn't have any nutritional value. Do you like brocolli, spinach, asparagus, anything like that?? It doesn't look like you drink enough water, either. Please exercise, it will help you look better faster. A nice toned body is much better than a jiggly one (I know, I am working on getting rid of my jiggle!!!). Don't give up, just try a few different things for a week and see how you feel. Try eating half portions and see if you are full before eating more. This WOL is worth it, you are worth it!!!

Thak you so much! I really appreciate all of your support! I really needed it!! I'm stickin' it out. I'm staying off the scale for another 3 weeks of induction and we will see how that goes. I'll try and stay away form the pepperoni, shakes, and the yummy Atkins bar

Yes, you are limited to 20 net carbs per day during Induction.

Please don't give up. The same thing happened to me the first time I tried Induction -- I drank the shakes and ate the bars and only lost like two or three pounds in two weeks. Then I found out that they stall you. So, the next time I did Induction I left those out and lost around 14 pounds in two weeks. Just give it another shot. In two weeks' time you'll be glad you did.

                Best wishes on your journey!!

Omigod. I hate to repeat what everyone has already said but perhaps it will make a difference to you. First of all...just like you...I stuff myself before I feel full. I think we are not used to feeling full without really feeling full. It's a bad habit for me too...I have to feel like I really don't want to eat anymore before I consider myself full...which is not how it actually should be. You should simply not feel "hungry" or pangs of desire for food.

I ALSO did that whole damn Atkins bars and shakes routine. Let me tell you...it screwed up my entire weight loss thingy. I could not believe it. I knew it was too good to be true that I could simply throw tons of money at the problem...and eat yummy yummy chocolates...and ooooh, my big weakness is the Chocolate Coconut Atkins bar. Anyway...you will not lose weight with that crap. Stay away from it...and as also recommended...cut down the salt when it's not entirely necessary for you to enjoy the meal...just cut it down a teensy weensy bit.

And if you want a sob story...I spent a week on Induction this time only to find out the beef patties I enjoy the most...had been loaded with corn flower. ARgghhhh. So I'm starting my induction over, also. Look forward to seeing how things go with you!

I am the perfect example of someone who doesn't have alot to lose, and doesn't lose rapidly either. I lost a whole pound after induction..and that was with no bad atkins bars, and I think I had pork rinds twice. I looked at your March 10th fitday and saw no veggies I looked at the day before and saw Atkins chocolate crisps. You are gonna have to eat your veggies and stay away from the goodies. I've done it for over 2 months now and am reaping the rewards, slowly but surely. I tell ya what, if you don't change, you won't change..get it?
