    Can I have flaxmeal everyday?

  • #2
    Re: Flaxmeal

Dr. Atkins recommended we take a daily fiber supplement. He recommended 1 tablespoon of either psyllium husks, flaxseed or wheat bran.

You can also get it in capsules. That's how I take it everyday.

Okay, so will psyllium husks capsules work everyday?

I have some also, but mine say take 5 pills 3 times a day, but no longer than a week. How many pills should we be taking a day then?

Dr. Atkins recommended 3 fiber supplements: psyllium husks, flaxseed or wheat bran. It's your pick.

                            Re: Flaxmeal

Psyllium husk is great, but its better to use the non capsule form if possible, same with the ground flax(flax meal).

The recommended serving for ground flax is 2 tablespoons per day.

                            Some Facts about flax.

Flax is very volatile when heated, I would not boil or heat flax under any circumstances. Use ground flax rather than flax oil for this reason.

                            Ground Flax vrs. Whole Seeds.
DO NOT feed anything or anyone whole flax seeds. It must be ground. One of the main reasons flax is sold as whole seeds, as previously mentioned is for storage purposes only, although if properly stored, ground flax can last a very long time, even without stabilizers.

                            Storage
Store flax in an airtight container in a cool, dry place and it will keep for many months.

                            Purchasing Flax
I recommend Organic Golden Ground Flax(flax meal). Organic flax is free of pesiticides, preservatives and additives. Make sure your flax is QAI(Quality Assurance International) certified. The bag will have a lot number on the package to show this. Its also good to know if the company you buy it from is certified by GMP(Good Manufacturing Practices) and NNFA(National Nutritional Foods Association).

                            Benefits of Flax
Flax is known as the "Superfood" because of all its amazing benefits. Dont limit yourself to giving flax to your horses. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of ground flax on your cereal, on your food or in yogurt to get the same benefits.

Rich in alpha linolenic acid, omega 3
If used in conjunction with oatmeal, it has been shown to significantly lower high blood pressure(recent Men's Health article)
anti-inflammatory effects, known to help migraine sufferers, and with arthritis, asthma, protection against heart disease, cancer and diabetes, rich in beneficial fiber
known to effectively lowers the risk of breast cancer, boost immune system, help manage weight
                            enhances mood, memory and attention
fight constipation and diarrhea, helps cholesterol, reduces symptoms of menopause

If you do a search on yahoo for ground flax you should find it at a reasonable price, or you can contact me and I can point you in the right direction.

adironda even if the recommened serving size as a health food is 2T until we Atkineers get to rung 3 of OWL our flax is only as a fiber supplement and muust comply with Dr Atkins recommendations. You will fins that one Tablespoon of seed will make about 2tablespoons of meal.

Also the reason they say don't use seed is because we can't digest the whole seeds and they act as fiber only so we don't get the benefit of the Omega3s but since we are using them as fiber in induction seeds would be fine if that as the preferred means of swallowing them.
