  • I'm a bit confused....

Ok I think I have the carb counting thing down, just one ? though. I know that there is a number for the carbs - the number for the dietary fiber, but what about the sugar how do you factor that number. I hope I wrote this clear enough. TIA

It depends on the source of sugar. Some items have natural sugars within them that are still legal. The sugars listed may be naturally occuring, such as diced tomatoes, or may be added for flavor (ugh). Things like the tomatoes are legal in the appropriate amounts. Things with added sugars (like fructose or corn syrup or granulated sugar) are not. Read the ingredients of the item, and make the right the choice.

Kent is right - 'added' sugars are to be avoided, but any processed foods might have 'natural' sugar from its ingredients like tomatoes.
So as long as 'sugar' or 'corn syrup' or 'fructose' or any other of sugar's aliases is not listed in the ingredients list the food should be OK.
Also if the sugar is listed right near the end of a long list of ingredients it means there isnt much of it compared to the earlier items in the list as they have to be listed in order of the most percentages of items first.

But we never deduct any 'sugars' figures from the carb count, only the dietary fibre if it is included in the 'total carb' figure.

BTW anyone not in USA might find their labels have already deducted the fibre from the carbs, so the figure given will be the 'net carbs'. Definitely if the product was packed in UK or Europe this will have been done.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
