Hi have just started the atkins induction diet - bought all the decaf drinks etc but find I am struggling for snacks - at the present I am using cheese does anyone have any other ideas? The carb content is low but I cant see eating loads of cheese will do any good also its cottage cheese so there are quite a few carbs and with my milk theres not much left for anything else - at least not for the next couple of weeks - even olives have carbs. Also I cant eat sausages and burgers so they are out. Any advice ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
Hi Canibe,
re-read the acceptable food list for induction. You'll find that cottage cheese, as any other fresh cheese, is not allowed during this phase of atkins.
I rarely need a snack during the day, but when in need I go for celery stalks with mayo, or salmon and lettuce rolls up.
have a look at the recipes forum, you'll find lots of snack ideas!

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
As mentioned, cottage cheese is not allowed, and neither is milk.
Get yourself a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, version 2002, DANDR for short, and give it a good read, especially about Induction. It lays things out quite clearly as to what you can and cannot have at this time.
In terms of snacking, the rule of thumb is to have a protein/fat combo as it satisfies you quicker and sustains you longer. Boiled egg, devilled egg, tuna or salmon salad, cheese with deli meat wrapped around it (cheese is fine as long as you stay within your daily limits)

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
And you're right, even olives have carbs. Atkins is not a no carb diet. It's a low carb diet and we eat up to 20g's of carbs on induction most of which come from the three cups of veggies we must eat everyday as per the rules of induction. By the way, olives are a great snack!

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
Pork rinds are a good snack, if ya like them. You have to limit these though, b/c the sodium is quite high. I personally don't like them, but you might.
I usually snack on my veggies through out the day. A cup of Cucumbers dipped in no sugar added, low/no carb italian dressing are yummy.
Also, try dipping mushrooms into some egg and coating them in Parm cheese and fry them. Allierw gave me this idea. They are so delishious, and I find that snacking on veggies through out the day, instead of eating them all at one, keeps my bloodsugar stable and I NEVER get cravings.
Deviled eggs are always a great idea, and so are boiled, but I think Moochie said that already. I don't know which links everyone gave you, but check out the appetizers, you may find a nice snack in there.
I hope this helps!! Let us know how it turns out!*Dieting makes you look good with your clothes on...exercise make you look good with them off.*

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
My fault - better get the book out again - thanks for the ideas - bit sick I've misunderstood about the milk and the cottage cheese! At least with the site I've not carrried on for a week and wondered why it wasnt working. Meals it is and salad - sounds a bit more interesting now too. Thanks for the tips and links. My reply looks a bit sad to your colourful ones but as I lose the lbs I might get better on the computer. Thanks again - starting a journal tomorrow too!

Re: Snacks - but not cheese
Go to the journal 'chat' forum to start up your journal if you want others to be able to drop by and talk with you. Journal 'stat' if you want just to keep a running log for yourself.
You need somewhere to host your pictures before you can load them into a post or your signature. You can go to www.photobucket.com which is free or (my personal favorite) becoming a supporting member here for $15 and they will give you your own gallery. If you use this site, you can just copy and paste images using your mouse - how easy is that? Check out the link in my signature below and view my gallery. I have just a few images there but it will give you an idea of what you can do!Jennifer
