I don't have the book, so can somebody please tell me why nuts are not allowed on induction? If i eat 3 eggs a day and 2oz of almods that surely does not go over 20carbs per day. plus nuts are rich in good fat!

Nuts are not allowed during the first 14 days of this diet because they are a mixed protein/fat food, they are limited to 1 ounce daily and so portion control is an issue, and some people have food intolerances to them. In fact, many people in OWL find that they cannot eat nuts because nuts and seeds cause them to stall or slow down weight loss.

PS: you really need to get a hold of the book or at the very least read the FAQ section of this board. Knowing how to do this diet properly and safely is important for your health.

      Re: Nuts and Induction

Dr Atkins in his latest DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION 2002 edition changed induction rule 5 from pick your own foods using a carb counter to say eat nothing not on the acceptable foods lists. so since nuts aren't on the list for 14 days we can't have any. after day 14 you can eoither move to OWL and ad them as a food in rung 3 or you can move to extended and add back 1 ounce of them along with your chaptewr 11 induction foods.

Do yourself a favor, do a clean two week induction and then add the nuts. You wont be sorry.

get the book as soon as possible. I bet in 14 days you can manage to try only half of the foods listed as acceptable. The list is huge and you cannot get bored!

Gala the problem is that in the coming month I would be able to get home only for one of my meals. I have two jobs and college and I hardly get any time to do proper cooking. I know that the book offers a wide variety of recipies and I would have loved to try them instead of complaining, but the truth is I simply can't do it.

Sure you can! You can go to any fast food restaurant or campus lunchroom and get a salad with a burger on the side without the bun (and ketchup!), or to a fast food burger joint and order the same, grilled chicken sandwich without the bun, taco without the wrap, or to a real restaurant and get a steak and salad! The possibilities are endless. Once you realize what foods are on the acceptable list, you CAN go anywhere and EAT.

Look in the FAQ section of the board because there is an FAQ there for vegetarians. Tofu, by the way, is allowed during Induction.

                      Re: Nuts and Induction

If you're ovo-veg, I recommend eggs. Boil 6 or so in the evening and wrap them in paper towel and then put them in a tupperware or something like that and carry one of those portable insulated cooler type bags with a freezy thing in it. i have a bunch of bags, I can even send you one if you can't get one. I'm out of the house most of the day also. I rely on hard boiled eggs and tuna in the pouch so I don't need a can opener. I cut up veggies and bag them, and I carry a 64 oz jug of water. I also use the disposable storage bowls from ziploc for things I want to microwave at work. I know you probably don't do tuna, but tofu would work also. Cheese cubes are very portable.

I spent a weekend at a Buddhist Monestary last fall and most everything that I was fed was Atkins approved. We had soup and dessert and tons of veggies, tofu was made with sesame seed instead of soy, but it was delicuous.
