  • What should I do?

Today I did so bad. It was my 3rd day of induction and I have lost 3.4 pounds I was super constipated and didn't go the entire 3 days but today, after I messed up my induction, I went. It was my uncles birthday and EVERYONE pressured me to eat ice cream cake, two pieces, even after my first piece they kept saying how it wouldn't hurt me and I wasn't fat. I told them, after I ate the cake "thanks, i'll mentally abuse myself all night because of this" Yikes, I guess from now on I will avoid family gatherings because they cannot seem to understand that I am on ATKINS WHICH IS A LOW CARB DIET for godssake they cannot understand that.

I was doing so good, I was following the rules, I cannot believe I messed it up for food I didn't even want or crave.

just keep going on your induction and learn from it peer pressure is very hard even for grown ups We had a goalie here who was pressured to return to induction back in 2004 to show new Atkineers the correct way to do induction at least that was her story.

Yeah, I know what you mean. That's why I knew I was going to go on the diet but ... i chose to wait until yesterday to start. I knew my daughter was having a birthday party and that I would be going to Pennsylvania to see my mom, dad and brother's. Of course, there was cake, ice cream, potato chips, etc. I just KNEW that I couldn't start induction given that they just wouldn't get it. Not only that, but I knew they'd be like "Yeah! right!!" ... so ... I started yesterday and day two has been good. I don't have to be around any temptation for a while ... hopefully, by then, I'll have this weight down and will have learned from the process.

But ... forget about what you did and just get RIGHT back on! Don't beat yourself up!! Start over NOW!
THIS TIME and for the LAST TIME, I will do this!!

It is always tempting for those of us who struggle with our weight issues to give ourselves a bout of recrimination over a small thing. But I'm encouraging you to re-think the way you treat yourself.

Would you mentally abuse another person if they had a moment of weakness? Of course not. And thats all it was - just a difficult moment that is over and done with, so get back on induction with your next bite.

You are your best friend in the whole wide world.
Always speak to yourself with the utmost kindness and respect.

Your family does not understand what is at stake for you. It is up to you to tell them in no uncertain terms that your health is your number one priority.

If you believe it, chances are they will too. You never know who is watching. My own daughters watched me do Atkins for a long time before coming on board. But now they believe in this way of life too.

You don't need to avoid family gatherings. You just need to prepare your own food in advance. Take some favorite Atkins friendly foods with you to your family parties or learn to make some induction friendly desserts.

HERE HERE! Excellent idea! And that is what I used to do, I had a dinner party with my friends four years ago and everyone was so impressed after dinner AND dessert when I told them everything was Atkins friendly. They couldn't believe how rich and creamy everything was, how everything was so fresh and healthy, and two of them even switched to Atkins with me.

Look under the recipes thread and you'll find some really great, rich, creamy, filling desserts that will have your family saying...NO WAY, YOU CAN EAT THIS?

And tabekat said a lot of true things about how you must feel about yourself. No one will love you as much as you do!!

Good idea with the preparing my own food but this was super unexpected. I can usually handle it on the weekends when they order out because I can get buffalo wings or chicken and broccoli they are my safe foods. I'm starting over today with a more positive attitude.

Really weird thing -- I woke up this morning starving.

I have seen a story like yours more than enough times to go out and print up a T-Shirt that says 'Why do you want me to fail?'. Seriously! That can be for any addict too, including alcoholics and drug addicts. There is always SOMEONE that wants to see you fail. I just don't get it. I guess misery loves company *shrugs*
In the end, it boils down to self control. Personally, when people offered me 'stuff', I would actually get mad at THEM, and it would make me that much more stubborn!
I tell ya what, print out this page and the next time someone offers you sugar, hand it to them. Tell them Cancer feeds off of sugar, and you don't want to put anything in your body that cancer likes.
              http://www.cancerchoices.com/7facts-gluconeogenesis.htm
Cancer cells need large amounts of glucose to progress. They are essentially 'sugar feeders'. A cancer tumor consumes glucose in amounts 4-5 times greater than normal cells. The reason for this is that when a normal cell is converted into a malignant (abnormal rapidly dividing) cell it goes from a cell that likes oxygen to one that hates oxygen . This does not mean the cell does not utilize oxygen it simply needs lesser amounts. If a normal healthy cell only had the amount of oxygen available to it that the tumor cell requires, it could not survive. That is because the tumor cells primary energy source becomes glucose (sugar) and not oxygen
