  • Fiber?

How much fiber should one have everyday? I don't think I'm getting enough fiber so I bought flaxseeds and made those crackers I saw on another thread( 2 tablespoons of flaxseeds and water......). I've been backed up for the last couple of days and I was wondering if eating these crackers would help move things along, and if so, how long till I see the effects? Thanks!!

When you are using flax or psyllium for fiber remember that you need to drink plenty of water to help it work it's way through your system. Only your body knows what rate it will process them.

One thing you might try is glycerine suppositories. When you feel like you are ready to have a bowel movement, but your body is not co-operating the suppository initiates contractions and you can experience relief within 15 minutes. They've helped me out when I've needed them.

I haven't been eating all 3 cups of veggies, maybe if I do, that could also help move things along? I will be sure to drink lots of water too.

Well, your fiber problem sounds good. I'm having a weird bloating thing and I'm considering Pepto Bismol or something...I have no idea what to try. I guess I need some fiber too.

          AHA Fiber Recommendation

I eat around 25-35 grams a day by incorporating lots of stir-fry, pumpkin, mock mash, rutabaga, berries, melon, nuts, etc. It is actually quite easy to get enough in without eating starches!

A reminder to newbies that berries, melon and nuts are not allowed during the 14 Day Induction period. They are allowed in the appropriate rung of OWL.

Also remember that you must eat those three cups of veggies too. There are many fibre rich choices!

I had two cups of salad yesterday and today I plan on eating 3 cups of salad again. I am not eating cheese or eggs today to see if that helps anything, but still nothing. I'm thinking of getting laxs. I have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I am so afraid that my stomach will start making noises.

Try some veggies with move fiber, I don't think lettuce has much fiber. I know Jicama is high is fiber. I am sure someone will know more fiber rich veggies than I do. Good luck with your problem.

Flax seed/meal is great. Be careful of laxitives as many contain sugar.
