  • Haven't started..

    the induction phase yet.. still reading away but getting prepared as I read through the book.. I had a tiny question.. in the book Dr Atkin mentions that you can eat butter during the induction not margarine.. I have always eaten Becel which is a margarine.. it says no trans fats etc etc.. just wondering if this is ok.. or should I switch to butter?

    I'd sort of like to know this as well. I don't have the book handy and have been considering switching to margerine just because I prefer the flavour.

      Margarine is fake butter, and full of additives. Lets see..let me look at the ingredients for the Becel margarine:

      *liquid vegetable oil, palm oil, water, salt, whey powder, soy lecithin, potassium sorbate, monoglycerides, artificial flavor, vitamin A palimate, colour, citric acid, vitamin D.*

      Ingredients for butter:
      *Pasturized cream, salt.*

      get the jest? Dr. Atkins wants us to eat natural foods..ESPECIALLY on induction. There isn't anything natural about margarine when you have to use a science lab to make it.

        Great post, Coitrina!! Margarine is bad for you. There really is no way around it, its just not healthy. I think butter is yummy, so I was thrilled that we could eat REAL butter!! Is it that you don't like butter?
        When are you starting this WOL?? I think today would be a great day!! Someone has in their signature 'A year from now, you will wish you had started today', so start today!
        What would we do without it?

          Eat butter and be merry.

          Butter is one of the biggest and yummiest assets of being an Atkineer. When Butter strikes the tongue it sends a signal to your brain that you are being WELL-FED, not starving...and lets it know it is safe to release the extra fat stores....

          When margarine strikes the tongue, the body just gets confused - it has no idea what to do with this bizarre substance that isn't even a food by the bodys definition of food.

          Toss away that margarine - it is a nightmare non-food - mangled and distorted and totally inappropriate for human consumption.
