  • I know.. newbie here with a ??

I know, I know!! Ive been a lurker here for the last couple days, and have read every post imaginable..... but I have a question, that has been asked a zillion other times! Ok... I am 5'7, 175 lbs, and did the hyped up version of adkins a year ago (200 calories, no carbs, high fat, 5 times a day) During that, I lost 6 lbs, in 5 days.
Recently I moved to an itty bitty town in TX, from Reno NV....and of course lost my book, including a few other things!! I know, that everyone loses differently, depending on a zillion factors. I know how annoying it is to hear the same old question again, but if you were forced to guess....life or death...how much weight do ya'll think I could lose in 19 days? My mom is flying in, and I get a overnight romantic stay to the Riverwalk in San Antonio, for my birthday, minus my 3 kids, 2 dogs, 400 head of cattle, and 148,000 chickens!! Woooo Hoooo!! I will be turning the big ol' 26, and want to lose AS MUCH weight as possible, by then (being hubby and I both get a day at the spa and an hr massage... oh yeah he is the always fit ex marine/ firefighter, not to be bitter )
I would appreciate as much feed back as possible, Im one of those types who needs this type of ambition, to acheive goals!!
    Thank you all!

You see how many folks are avoiding this questions and the reason is, we don't know. Dr Atkins said that you should lose 5 to 10 percent of what you would like to lose during the first 2 weeks of induction. Saying that, if you need to lose 100 pounds you could lose anywhere from 5 to 10 pounds.
Welcome Diana, I would love a romantic stay in San Antonio, it sounds absolutely wonderful. Tell us all about it.

      It is ATkins, not ADkins.

You can't lose more than 10 lbs in 18 days. And even some of that would be water weight. Trying cutting out your sodium too...and you'll see inches come off. Good luck.

I am going to have to disagree on that point based on my personal experience. I lost about 12 pounds in my first two weeks. I was careful about induction, though. Exercise will help too but I must be truthful - I didn't exercise during induction. I started out with a total of 40 pounds to lose.

Again, like it has been said: We are all SO different. Don't base your expectations on anyone else!

That 'hyped up version of Atkins' you did was the Fat Fast. Yuck! That is totally not what Atkins is about. This is not a good 'diet' to jump on and off of as it can wreak havoc on your system. Best to look at it as a way of life not a quick fix!

Cypressgirl is right, there is NO quick fix. It took us a while to put the weight on, and it will take some time to take it off. Do you want to lose some weight for a week or two only to put it back on, or do you want to be thin and healthy for life? I guess that is a question only you can answer. Good luck.
What would we do without it?

Well this is my first time writing in here, and i must comment this. I lost 10 pounds (4,5 kg) on my first 5 days on Induction. This is my 6th day and I desided to not scale the next few day. Cause this is to good to be true Enjoy your stay... Remember this is not a fix, hardly any carbs on the B-day.

As its already been mentioned a few times on this thread already. There is absolutely no right or wrong answer about the amount of weight which can be lost in the first week.

It depends on so many things. But its not a race! It will come off just aslong as your persevere.

              Good luck.

At 175 lbs starting weight...and a height of 5' 7...I'm pretty sure that someone losing more than 10 lbs in 18 days just loses tons of water...and is a highly exceptional case. And yes, probably isn't doing much exercise to add muscle mass to the body.

At any rate...good luck with dropping the weight. You want it off...so the only way to get it off is to do something about it...otherwise it will stay on your body.

Re: I know.. newbie here with a ??

LIke everyone said, you should lose 5-10% of what you need to lose during the first 14 days. However the reason everyone is different is b/c of metabolic resistance. Some of us have a low resistance and lose a large amount, and others is high and lose slower. Make sence?

I know you mentioned you lost you book so here:

                  Page 158 in DANDR says:

Pounds lost in First 14 Days when Metabolic Resistance is High, Average, or Low

                  Pounds to lOse....High...Average...Low
                  Less than 20.......... 2..........4.............6
                  20-50....................3..........6.............9
                  Over 50.................4..........8.............12
You can determine what resistance after you have done your first 14 days.

                  If you have to lose:
more than 50lbs, expect ABOUT 4-12 pounds could be more/less
                  20-50 lbs, about 3-9..could be more/less
less than 20lbs, about 2-6 could be more/less

These are just a good round about numbers, nothing set in stone.

The only true way to know what you will lose is to just go ahead and do it. Exercise, drink all your water, take your vitamins, and eat in the correct ratios, and you will be in good shape for losing!!!

I wish you all the best of luck!!!

                        Those are great results!!!!

Remember you are more than likely going to experience P.I.S.S. = post induction stall syndrome. Your body needs to adjust to all of the changes. I lost 7.5 pounds the first week, and nothing for the next 3 1/2 weeks and then WHAM 3 pounds gone.

If your focus is to LOOK good, then measure and you will see your results no matter what the scale says. The tape saved me from sabotaging myself when the scale didn't move for weeks.

Thank you guys for the advice.... I even like hearing the averages!!! I just cant believe the will power I lack when it comes to food!! I have always been so hard headed, but food is my number 1 fault!! This weekend, I of course messed up, so I decided to restart this morning. Well I guess it was due to 2 hours of sleep last night (we were under tornado watches, thats the 1st for me), I got up with the kids and ate 3 waffles and syrup! I dont even like waffles!! Maybe I could reverse my train of thought, and tell myself I want to gain weight!! lol Who knows!! Again though thanks for the advice, Ill keep you posted! P.S. The hotel we are staying at, is voted top 10 in the most haunted hotels in the US. It was built in 1859, and legend has it that there are 39 permenent ghostly guests!! I called yesterday and requested to stay in the oldest, most haunted portion of the hotel!! Ive got to make the most out of my outing.... and hey what kinda' ghost wants to spook a chub?? Maybe they can scare the fat right off of me!!!!!

Have fun at your spa. Just do a clean induction, make sure you drink plenty of water and you will definately feel more comfortable in your clothes. Don't focus on the scale. Use your tape measure and how your clothing fits to keep you motivated.
