  • question about exercise

    hello i'm new.

i have a broken foot, and i (obviously) am not going to be doing any cardio anytime soon, so if i go on atkins, (today is the first day for me) will i still lose fat even if i am just sitting on my butt?

oh yeah, and i had three cups of coffe today with 2 splendas each but that's before i found this site...for my breakfast i had pork chop, boiled egg and chedder cheese.

did i screw up my induction first day?

oh and i really want to get the book, but i can't drive, so i have to wrangle someone into buying it for me....thanks in advance, niki

You can get hold of a book on Amazon or anyother on line store.

Is that caffeinated or de-caffeinated? You shouldnt be drinking coffee at all, especially on your first day. But it must be hard if you havent got the book. I hope you can find it online somewhere.

Even if you are in a boot for your broken foot try to find a rowing machince or if you belong to a gym they have those machines that look like bike pedals for your arms (a torso machine) you can get a great cardio workout from that. Believe me I have been dealing with my broken foot since the beginning of the year.

I would advise that you leave the excercise until you are 100% recovered. There is no point risking making it worse.

You could do some upper body weights? Or some Sit ups / stomach crunches.

I was in the gym a week after I broke mine in a full air cast. I am not telling her to do 500lb squats, but there definetly is cardio she can do with a broken foot.

I totally agree with the bike pedals for the arms machine (I'm sure there is a technical name for it lol). But I can't see how the rowing machine could work? Surely you put pressure on your feet?

I am open to be corrected though, I just cant see how thats all.

              Re: question about exercise

At my gym they just call the machine a torso machine I believe. I agree that is the best bet by far. As far as the rowin machine goes I guess it depends on the setup. The one I used had real big foot holds that fit my boot and I was able to use 99% upper body and push off with my good foot. Most gyms around here are phasing out rowing machines anyway so definetly that torso machine would be the way to go.

whoa...heck no....not everybody's broken foot is the same, think about it..several bones down there..be really careful about what you advise...
my doctor said absolutly no exercise with the exception of modified push ups and crunches. i have multiple injuries to my ankle, several metarsals, and toes and the way he described it is our feet and muscles are straining even when we don't know it, and it needs to be completley rested.
other then that...i cannot drive anyway

                will check amazon, thanks.

                  Re: question about exercise

oh he said no weights dumbbells because we brace with our feet, but I sit on the ground, lift my legs in "pike" and lift like that...foots in the air!
more than one way to skin a cat...
but alas none of these will get my heartrate up.

                    Re: question about exercise

The arm torso thing will be fine also as its purely arms.

However they arent as common as other pieces of cv equipment. My gym for example has the following

                    10 x treamills
                    4 x rowers
                    4 x steppers
                    10 excercise bikes
                    10 elipticals

but only 1 torso "hand bike" type thing. So you may struggle to find one. However, I am just going from 1 english gym. Yours may be different.

i don't know exactly what you are talking about...it sounds like a cool machine, i don't know if my gym has one.

but i can't drive, so i'm kind of screwed on that one.

From what I've heard and experienced, sex gets your heartrate up and doesn't require bracing with your feet ...

I broke my toe shortly after starting Atkins three weeks ago.
During these three weeks I have lost a total of 15lbs, without a whole lot of cardio.
I still do leg lifts and crunches with my legs elevated, and beleive me you can get a heck of a workout. Just use your imagination.
                              You will do just fine.
Another day, in a new weigh!!!
