  • How much loss is too much?

Hi guys. Im on my 14th day of Atkins (well, pseudo-atkins since I am still consuming caffeine -heehee), and to date ive lost 14.2 lbs (186.4 down to 172.2). Ive been doing some weight training along the way, and actually feel alot stronger; indicating to me that it isnt muscle loss. Should I be concerned that this rate of approximatly 1lb per day is dangerous? Thanks!

That is a great loss! Did you read the book? Are you eating 3 cups veggies a day and drinking your water (I will leave the coffee issue alone). If so, then you are just fine.
What would we do without it?

      Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

I do eat the veggies - mostly spinich and some peppers. And im really well hydrated; ive become best friends with the commode in the last two weeks.

Looking back over my log (i kept track of my weight and calories/carbs consumed per day) 14 lbs is my NET loss; daily loss has decreased slightly over time, so I guess it wasnt much of an issue.

And I do excersize pretty vigourosly (ive become my own drill sgt - LOL)

i think it sounds like you are doing great! however, weight loss sometimes slows as you get closer to goal weight i think.

Congrats on your progress so far.

In the first 2 weeks of the diet you will lose your water weight and this is why so much weight comes off in the first 2 weeks but don't expect to keep losing at that rate though.

In general, absolutely be concerned if the weight lost is fat or muscle! At what rate is safe depends greatly on the persons size to begin with. An overweight person can lose at a faster rate then some one that is closer to there goals. But generally the 2 lb per week rule applies (except during the first 2 weeks of induction).

Track your body fat percentage to see if what is lost is coming from fat or lean body mass. When you lose muscle it actually raises your body fat percentage so what good is losing weight if it makes us fatter. Ensure what you lose is fat.

              Thanks for the advice, all.

And Tommy, I was just wondering (Im in the ARNG) did you find it at all hard to keep up with PT while in ketosis?

Hey, congrats on your loss! I ost 14 during induction also. 11 week 1 and 3 week 2. I've slowed down a bunch since. I'm active duty Army, who knew there were so many of us here. i've been fine with pt, other than the second and third day. I eat some cheese in the morning before I eat breakfast, i don't like running, etc. on an empty stomach.

I agree with the above post, no problems at all with exercising in ketosis except maybe the first 3-4 days while entering when you feel a bit drained.

I felt the same way about 'em, lol. In 25 days I won't wear BDU's anymore either.

Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. Please post your body stats to make it easier for the volunteers to answer your questions.

Prepare yourself for the reality that weight loss will most likely slow down. But that doesn't mean you won't continue to lose sizes anyway.

Congratulations for making it through induction!
