Will someone please tell me how to post a new thread, I am not sure why, but feeling rather lame as I cannot figure it out... I wanted to know if anyone else experienced problems with easy bruising while in induction phase?? This is my second time around and I thought it was coincidence the first time, but am back with the same problem. The bruises are darker than I usually suffer from, and come from bumps into tables, etc that are not even very hard hits!! Thanks so much!!

I split the thread into a new one. To post a new topic, you need to be in the forum, not in an individual thread, and click "new thread".

    Anyhow about the bruising...

First off are you on any medications like blood-thinners or aspirin?
Secondly, Dr. Atkins advised all of us to get a physicial exam and basic blood work before starting this diet, so did your lab work show anything?
    Thirdly, what are you eating?
Fourthly are you taking any supplements, like herbal teas, herbal medicines, vitamins, etc.?

      Re: Bruising

I bruised easily in the beginning too. I was taking supplements, eating correctly and I wasn't taking any medications. I mentioned it to my doctor, ran blood tests, and everything was fine. I stopped bruising so easily after a few months. I also have a two year boy who gets a little rough. I think he caused most of the bruises. LOL

Up your vitamin C cause it strengthens those little veins.

More red meats may help that problem and making sure to take a multi vitamin definantly will. For sure though talk to doctor it is always a good ideal.

Potassium (I know I spelled that wrong). If you are low in that, you will bruise very easy. Are you taking a good multi-vitamin?
What would we do without it?

              Re: Bruising

I am sure you aren't drinking, but I used to bruise VERY easily when I drank. I used to drink everyday over a year ago. I bring this up, because whatever the alcohol depleted, caused me to bruise. I am not sure if it thinned my blood, or I just lost something very important <besides my memory lol> but to be honest, I have no more bruising since I don't drink much anymore. Now, as I was writing this..I paused and did a quick search on google about this subject of low carb and bruising. Here is what I found:

*Bruising - Some low carbers report bruising... I have heard of this, but I have not personally experienced it. They say it is due to the rapid weight loss low carbers experience. Apparently, they believe that the small capillaries under the skin burst due to the changes caused by rapid weight loss. The good news is that this can be circumvented by taking extra Vitamin C! *

Here is the link to the website:

there is a pretty big load of information there if you would like to read up on other subjects too!

Are you taking a multi-vitamin? If you are not, I think this may correct the problem

                    Re: Bruising

The link that Coitrina mentioned makes so much sense to me. I drank plenty of water, took a good multivitamin, Vitamin C, and ate plenty of red meat and yet I still bruised. If it has to do with rapid weight loss then that would explain why it happened at the beginning of low carbing. We all lose weight the fastest in the beginning. Interesting.

                      Re: Bruising

The other vitamin for promoting clotting is Vitamin K. Vitamin K is found in vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, etc.

But there are other factors that can cause easy bruising, so please review my prior post and see your doctor.

Thanks for this link - I noticed bruising today on my tummy area and thought it was odd- at least I know what the cause is now.
