  • Some questions for a day 1 newbie

    Hi guys

I have decided to start Atkins today. This is actually my second time around. The first time I lost about 30 pounds, but I cheated often. I have made a commitment to myself to do it right this time! I just had a couple of questions.

I had read a post about deli meat-salami- and now I can't find it. For induction is deli meat such as salami ok. It contains 1 g carbs for 1 ounce, but there is less than 2% of things like corn syrup/sugars. If this brand is not okay, is there one that is?

For people that had a lot of weight to lose, did you do better doing induction for the 14 days and then going into OWL or was it better staying on induction for longer. I am a pretty picky eater so I feel I might do better with more options for foods faster, but I don't want to cheat myself of the benefits.

Also, is there a specific spot to find out information about the boot camps and the challenges that I see on peoples posts?

Thanks for your help and the great board!

    Week 1 (6/21-6/27)
    1. Drink at least 1 gallon plain water daily
    2. Try at least 3 new recipes (this will be tough-I always prepare things the same-this will encourage me to try things differently and include foods that are different for me)
    3. Try at least 5 new foods on acceptable foods list (this will also be tough being that I only have a set food list of about 10 things I eat)
    4. Begin exercising by walking everyday.
    5. Take a before picture of myself

I tend not to eat alot of processed foods due to the sodium content. Too much sodium for some folks makes them retain water---which isn't a good thing for our hearts.

Otherwise, try to find a product with the lowest carb. Remember, that the nutritional info on the package is only accurate for the listed serving size.

After your 14 days, you look up the amount of weight you lose in the metabolic resistance chart in Chapter 13 of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 ed. From that you can help determine if you would like to stay on Induction longer or move onto OWL.

There is a Boot Camp info forum and a Challenges forum on the board. You need to scroll downwards on the main page.
