  • Snacks on Induction

Just asking for a little assistance. When I first did Atkins, I would eat sugar-free jello as a snack. Is this okay to eat while on induction? I had success the first time around. But I am really trying to do this right, so any help is appreciated.

Dr. A says to avoid aspartame. I don't know if they make sugar free jello with splenda yet, so you might want to avoid it or just have it very occasionally. Cheese, pepperoni chips and pork rinds are popular snacks. These are high in sodium though so you might want to limit those as well. Devilled eggs are deliciously legal and you can snack on roasted chicken as well. Moochiecat used to make a little snack bowl with some of her daily allotment of veggies, chopped, mixed with some pepperoni and cheese cubes. Then she would munch on it like popcorn. She found this very helpful.

If you can find the Jolly Rancher premade jello, it is made with splenda, but its hard to find. If a store has it it will be in the refridgerated section.

Thank you very much LadyinRed.....I'm eating cracker barrel cheese sticks and those prove to be pretty good. I'll have to get my pepperoni as well as some turkey for some rollups.

If sweet things are the types of snacks that you like, you might want to just get rid of the sugar monster altogether during induction and stay away from those types of snacks. Things like olives and dill pickles are good snacks too.

Also remember that each serving of that sweetened snack counts towards your 3 daily sweetener allotments.

Otherwise, snacks can be whatever legal food you want, provided you eat them within their limits.

Dr. Atkins recommended that our snacks should be high fat or a fat-protein combo.

If you can find them, you might want to stry pork skins cut into skinny strips and mildly seasoned with cayenne. Found in NC & VA or online at http://www.porkskins.com/ (there's another plae that makes them further north can't remember) But careful don't crunch too fast or you could chip a tooth! Lo-o-o-ve those red skins!

I've just given away the Jello I had and have gone to the store to get Pork Skins. I used to eat these too as a snack. So I guess it's back to the basics.
