  • I need help....

I am new to atkins and planning on stating tomorrow. the thing is I am a very pick eater and I am not sure how to come up with a menu. so i am hoping someone will take me under their wing and help me!!
    I eat the following things:
ground beef, sausage, bacon, hot dogs, wheat meat chicken breast, some steak, once in a while pork chops, eggs, salad and cheese.
I am an office manager for a doctor so we have lunch brought in, so usually lunch and I get 3 cups mixed greens with chesse egg, bacon and almonds. with ranch dressing. I know if i leave off the almonds I should be o.k.
I just need someone to tell me what my menu should look like!!

Also i read that you can have delived eggs, how do you make them? I usually make them with mayo mustard and pickle juice? Is this allowed? Also what can i use on my meats? I like A-1 and ketcup.

Thanks for letting me ask all these ????. I just want this to work, I can't exercise much due to a disease I have in my leg, so I am going to try to walk some.

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome.

Before you start, I suggest you read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 ed. Or at the very least go to the FAQ forum of this board and read the threads about the Rules of Induction and the Foods you can eat during Induction.

As for exercise, walking is a great form of exercise. You'll need to do some weight training too and they can be as simple as push-ups, sit-ups, windmills and all the other things you did in Phys Ed class when you were a student.

Good luck to you and please read the book. It will help you much more than this forum can.

      Re: I need help....

Yes I suggest you get the Book it will help you out a lot.

As for meats and sauce Ketchup is NOT allowed and neither is A-1 the best thing to put on your meat is a little salt and pepper for the first 14 days you really wanna stay away from antyhing with fillers preservatives or any Low Carb Products as they can trigger cravings and cause stalls in some. We want to basically detx the Body in the first 14 days so keep it as clean as possible.

The way you make your Deviled eggs looks ok to me sounds good.

Be sure you are eating your Allowable Veggies portion them out into the 2 meals of the day so they are in say Lunch and supper.

Nuts are not allowed till the Nut rung so Almonds are not allowed on Induction.

Be sure you are eating no more then 2-4 oz of cheese a day one ounce is the size of your finger so 1 thicker slice is about 2 oz, it's easy to overeat your cheeses.

I would stay away from Hotdog they have preservatives in them and a lot of Sodium content and can also cause stalls.

I hope that helps you a bit I am trying to be Helpful and Even know you have trouble Exerciseing I wanna commend you on giving walking a shot Way to go.

Welcome to our ADBB family, Tricia

And congratulations on not just diving in without asking questions.

As has been said you will do better if you can read the book - but if you dont have it handy make sure you read some of the FAQ forum threads concerning the rules of induction and perhaps print it and the list of allowed foods to have handy to refer to before you choose anything to eat!

When istarted induction I had one list on my fridge, one at work and one in my pocket so I could always look things up to make sure before I ate anything.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

          Re: I need help....

          welcome to ADBB.
yep owning the book is a must and will be the best $7 investment you make in yourself.

About your deviled eggs if that isn't sweetpickle juice then it should be fine. you could just use a little white vinegar instead.

since we only get 3 cups of veggies total a day for the 14 days of induction I'd suggest you not havce all 3 cups at lunch as this will bolus your carbs, you can get a togo box for your salad and eat some of it with dinner and use some of the veggies with your breackfast and not have to buy veggies on working days. Each meal should contain some of your veggie carbs some protein and some fat. As you start practicing this way of eating during induction then when you get to OWL and add back carbs you wil be able to spread your carbs out and avoid any blood sugar swings from eating them all at once.

Walking is great exercise. I started out walking back in 2002 ans still walk now just much faster and longer.

              Re: I need help....

Make sure your read labels, not just carb counts. If you eat hotdogs, maybe only once a week and make sure they don't have sugar (dextose, corn syrup, etc.). Try to keep processed foods like salami, bacon, hotdogs, pepperoni, to a minimum. Its better to eat fresh foods that you cook yourself. Your 20 carbs a day should be comming from your veggies and other healthy foods.
You will love eating this way, and you will feel great after your first week. I can PM you with a days menu if you would like. Anything I can do please just let me know!
What would we do without it?

                Re: I need help....

I could give you a typical Menu I had when I was on Induction a while Back.

Breakfast Spinach cheese Omlet with Bacon chunks on it. 1 cupp decaff coffee 2 cups water.

Snack 1 oz cheeze this is the size of a finger.

Lunch 2 cups Spinach romain or lettuce salad, 2 oz cheese chopped finely, Hard Boiled Egg Sliced, 1 can of Tuna or salmon, topped with Mayonnaise. 2 cups water

                More water HE HE

Supper some type of meat, salmon, pork, steak, seafood, 1 cup of cooked Broccoli or Cauliflower with butter ontop

Portion sizes when I started were pretty big I now know what a portion is supposed to look like a fist size amount is the size of a portion of packed or loosely packed veggies a full palm is the size of a portion of meat.

I hope that kinda helps you.

                      Re: I need help....

Here is my menu for tomorrow, which looks like things you said you liked:

bacon & egg quiche w/mozz cheese for breakfast (I made it earlier today and will reheat a portion tomorrow)

lunch is chicken salad with mayo and celery and onions on a lettuce leaf (made the chicken salad today so it will be ready for me in the morning to take to work)

dinner is a cheeseburger with no bun and some veggie, maybe string beans with butter

I just started yesterday so I am thinking this fits into the plan, with all that I have read.

What I did was sit down with a notebook and write down the title for 25+ things I can eat for each meal to make it easier to plan and succeed. I found alot of recipes in some sugarbuster type cookbooks (SB & Brennans). Just make sure there is no flour or bread, as some of their recipes list these. There is also a link I found on someones personal website that has links to loads of recipe sites: http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/links.html

I read the book and shopped before I started, so I am prepared and only have approved foods in the house. I have a load on hand so I can pretty much whip alot of these recipes. It was pretty easy to shop, just buy eggs, cheese, heavy cream, meats, salad and approved veggies. I went to GFS and bought many of these in bulk, as dh and I are both doing the plan together and we also have 3 kids to feed.

                      Good luck!
