  • What if I am not hungry...

    Hello,

Today is Day 1 for me. I woke up this morning expecting to be hungry just because I knew it would be day 1; however, I am not one bit hungry. I am drinking my water, but I am not hungry. Do I need to eat before I am hungry? Any advice?

You should not go more than 6 waking hours without eating. Just eat a small fat/protein snack (chicken, cheese, devilled eggs - something like that) if you aren't hungry. Do you have a copy of DANDR 2002? It explains everything. You should be eating 3 meals a day or else 5 or 6 mini meals throughout the day.

Yes, I have the book and I have read it. It is just hard to think of eating when I am not hungry. I will go have something then. Thanks!

Re: What if I am not hungry...

If you had a large supply of glycogen stored up, you may not get too hungry at first. Usually it takes me until day 2, when I can be ravenous and weak until sometime into the 3rd day, when the body has switched to fat burning, and the energy goes up, and the appetite down.

Also, the quantity in meals can be smaller if you aren't hungry - just stay on the induction list and you may benefit www.fitday.com for getting the menu right for percentages for fat vs protein vs carbs that are best 65/30/5 at first.

Re: What if I am not hungry...

We need to eat regular meals so that our bodies will have fuel, stay full and be convinced that we will no longer torture them with endless bouts
          of binging and starvation.

When we feed the body healthy induction foods on a regular basis, and stay full, the body is then free to release the extra fat stores.

The first 3 weeks of induction as you adapt to Atkins you will have periods when you aren't hungry, or you won't feel enthused about the food that you can have on Atkins. To get past these times, eat anyway, eat the right foods. Be full. Once your body has adjusted to ketosis, you will naturally be hungry at regular intervals, and want to eat induction foods.

Eat, drink water and be merry! Your clothes will soon be fitting loose and your tape measure will too. Be sure and read all the stickys at the top of the induction forum as well.

Ok, today is Day 2 and again I was not hungry. I did eat ham and cheese for lunch and was full. Now, after only an hour or so I am hungry again. What's up with that?

Nothings up. Everything is fine. It is ok to eat when ever you are hungry, just listen to your body.

But as LIR said you must not go more than 6 waking hours without eating.

Rich is correct. There's nothing wrong with you because you are relearning those hunger cues that you unlearned.

Did you know that newborns will only drink the amount of formula/breast milk they require and no more? We unlearn that natural habit when we are toddlers when we are overfed by well-meaning adults.
