  • Low-carb ketcup, A1, BBQ?

    Hello,

I am on induction (will be for a long time). Anyway, I have noticed that many people on the board use some of the low-carb products such as ketchup and A-1. I bought some of the low-carb barbeque sauce before I read the plan and it is in the pantry. My question is whether any of these are acceptable on induction? If you count the carbs could I put some BBQ sauce on my chicken and still be legal? I am a little confused. I know that the bars, shakes and mixes are a no-no, but what about the rest?

The simple answer for you Deborah, is no. Those things aren't permitted during the intiatl stage of the diet.

Thanks so much Rich. Since I never opened the BBQ sauce, it isn't tempting me so I can make it without it. I shall put it back on the shelf. There really are all kinds of little things to learn even if you read the book. I am sorry that I am asking so many questions!

I've always used Atkins ketchup, I was told it was fine when I posted awhile ago.

        Thanks

If the food doesnt appear on the induction legal food list, then it should be eatern. See attached link http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781

Also see this quote, which comes from the first paragraph of the link I have supplied.

Note: Bars, shakes and other low carb foods are not included in the foods as listed on the "How To Do Atkins" part of the website. If you chooose to use them that is your personal choice. If you aren't happy with your weight loss then stop eating those foods and see what happens. There isn't any way to redo your induction because the opportunity is already used up. Make educated decisions about any food you put in your mouth while doing induction and any other phase of Atkins. Know those carb counts before you eat it. And for those that don't bother to read the book, liberally doesn't mean stuff yourself, it means eat enough to satisfy your hunger and stop.

Great advice, Rich. I see you plan on being in Induction for a while, but please don't be afraid of OWL. Its the most important part of Atkins, and you still lose weight.
Don't be sorry for asking questions! That is what we are here for!!
What would we do without it?

                  Cherrycoke,

Hmmm, so now I have conflicting advice. What do I do? I think I am going to keep it pure a while though as the people who say stay away from it have been so successful. Maybe as I enter extended induction I will add something in. Thanks.

Well don't listen to me but that is one thing I do use, you do what is right for you. I'm sure there's a good reason they don't use it on induction, I replied only because I had gotten a different answer before when I posted.

Oh I certainly appreciate the insight. I will probably add those products in after I do the induction clean. I need to learn the rules before I go breaking'em.
