  • is this a feasible goal?

    Hi everyone!

I am on day 5 of Atkins, and I have confidence that I will stick through the diet...but I am a really slow loser, and I am wondering if my goal of losing 21 more lbs in about 3 months is realistic on this diet?

I am 5'4", I weigh 141 and want to get down to 120.

    145/141/120....

    Thanks ya'll!

Well, do you want to keep the weight off long term? If so, you need to make sure to go up the OWL ladder, to learn how to keep the weight off for life. Is 120 a healthy weight for you? I am 5'4" also, and my goal weight is 135.
Please don't put a time frame on weight loss, as long as you follow Dr. Atkins plan, you will lose weight. Everyone loses weight at a different pace.
    Good luck!!
What would we do without it?

    Mini-goal- 149 by June 1st. I can do it!!!

Also your rate of weight loss really depends on your metabolism and how well you stick to the diet (not only the eating part, but also the exercise part).

On average during the first 2 weeks you can expect to lose about 5-10% of the weight you want to lose. So for a 20 pound weight loss goal, you can expect to lose 1-2 pounds during the first 2 weeks.

If you exercise, your fat loss will increase. I make a distinction about fat loss because the loss of pounds does not always represent the loss of body fat. If you exercise and gain 1 pound of muscle, while losing 1 pound of fat, that scale won't show any "lost" pounds.

And to follow up with what sunflower girl wrote: as with any other weight loss diet (Ornish, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, the Zone), once you go back to the eating habits that made you fat in the first place, you will regain the weight you lost.
