  • Discouraged and crying

    3RD day of induction and my stick is showing trace. I am so upset. I am showing trace, meaning I am in ketosis. But how come it is not higher? I read most of this forum about ketosis and everyone is in purple, dark pink

    I am about to give up. I am never gonna fit in my clothes again

    aweee hun i am soeey i wish i knew what to say.. i am not using any strips.... ptretty new to atkins i am on my 4th day.. hang in there hun we can do it!!!!!!!!!!

        hey
        dont give up
        3 days isnt long enough to see it, your still using whats in your body that was stored up. Thats why its a 2 week induction.
        and the ketones come out in breaths and skin sweat
        post your menus and get a opinion

          Also, recall from the book, it takes 24-72 hours for you to use up your glycogen stores and get into lipolysis. So don't worry about it.

          And recall what Dr. Atkins wrote in Chapter 11:
          However, should your LTS not turn pink or purple despite the fact that you are doing everything correctly, you may still show a decrease in appetite, an improvement in well-being, a loosening of your clothes and a slow but steady weight loss and reduction in inches. This simply means that you are not producing enough ketones to register on the LTS but enough to burn fat. Remember, the strips are tools; making them change color is not the sole objective of the game.

            I eat eggs, bacon, steaks, chicken breats(grilled) and grilled fish. (Mainly steaks) I am going to start growing meat inside me.

            I eat 1-2 oz cheese a day and my vegetable(carb) intake is not higher than 20 gr a day. I eat lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions and cucumbers mainly. I only use butter with scrambled eggs (it is not like I can eat butter on bread) and I make sure I drink enough water. I switched to decaf although I have 1 cup of regular coffee in the mornings.

            I prepared an excel file to keep a track of everything I eat every day.

            I will reread those links but I was really hoping to lose this wegiht with Atkins. I went through a very painful break up last year and I gained 25 in less than 8 months since. I tried Medifast, I tried WW and it does not come off I am afraid I am stuck with this weight for the rest of my life.

              for what I have read in the book (I need the newest edition) but everything you are eating seems good to me!
              I do not eat any veggies (haven't in the past 3 days) I been eating nothing but meats and cheese.. I dip my cheese in hot sauce hehehe.. anyways I hope someone here can give you better advice than I can hun!!! Hang in there we can do this!

                You've only been doing this for 3 days. Give it the whole 14 days and then make up your mind. Like I said, it takes 24-72 hours for you to use up your glycogen stores and begin lipolysis. Give the diet a chance to work. Afterall, it took you more than 3 days to gain your weight, so why are you expecting to lose it in 3 days?

                  When i drink 100 oz od water a day my sticks are lighter purple and when i am bad and dont drink enough water they are dark purple. With that said i believe it depends on your h20 consumption! Just my personal experience!

                      You HAVE TO EAT YOUR VEGGIES!!! That is not an option, you will make yourself sick if you only eat meat and cheese. You are NOT doing Atkins if you are not eating veggies!!!
                      Sorry to yell, but darn it that upsets me. Please do this for your health and not just to be thin!!

                      Ok, as far as the sticks go, they are a waste of money. I have lost 23 pounds and never even looked at one. Do not stress, you will lose weight as long as you follow the rules of Induction.
                      What would we do without it?

                        #1. Do not buy any more stix.

                        You don't need them. They are like the scale, they can be evil at times, and give you the wrong impression. If you are following induction as you should, the weight will come off, whether or not you pee on a stick! The sticks are a tool, yes, if they are upsetting you, they are a tool you CAN do without, and if you're crying, then you definitely don't need to be using them. Relax! If you're eating what you should, tracking your carb intake and not going over your 20, AND eating as you should, including those veggies, you shouldn't have a problem. Your best bet is to give it the two weeks, see how much you've lost, check to see what your level of resistance is to losing weight based on that two week loss, and go from there. In the meantime, read those induction forum stickies, and read your book, so you'll know what to do at the end of the induction period. Don't stress, that can keep you from losing weight too!

                        Be calm, and realize... this is about making you healthy and losing some weight along the way. This is not about getting skinny overnight, but more about retraining yourself to eat the way your body needs you to in the long run. You will learn more about yourself, your eating habits, your weaknesses, and how your body responds to what you eat than you ever would on WW or any other diet, in my opinion.

                          Trace is fine.. also.. don't stress out on the ketostix. I sware they were the biggest mistake I made.. I assumed that if I was in ketosys that they'd show and thats all that would matter. I wasn't even doing Atkins and I was in ketosys but I still wasn't loosing weight.

                          Just follow the book and post here if you have any questions.. It will work.

                          The Ketostix should simply be a guide...

                          Like a walking stick you can still go for a hike without them.

                            Don't worry -- I show "trace" most of the time and am dropping weight consistently. As one of the mods says, ketosis is like pregnancy -- you are or you aren't. You are, so just keep it up.

                            ... but as sunflowergrl says, make sure you're eating enough veggies!
