  • Please help me make an Induction shopping list - UK

Ok so I have read the book and know quite a lot about Atkins/low carb in general. I have done the induction before for 4 weeks and lost quite a lot of weight (28lbs) and then for some reason or other went away from the diet and slowly gained and more to get to my weight now of 133lbs, I am 5'2 by the way so this weight sits very very heavy on me. I am wanting to get back to 105-11olbs and plan on doing induction for 3 weeks before going onto an extended induction.

Here's the thing. I want some help compiling a shopping list for the induction plan and need some help for UK specific foods/products that will be particularly helpful on this stage of the diet, can anyone suggest anything or share their UK experiences of this stage of the diet. Also I am a real diet coke addict and having bad problems not having it. When I did atkins last time I had diet coke and black coffee and it didnt affect my weight loss, is it really that bad?? Could i just have a few cans a week maybe? I could probably give up the black coffee but not the diet coke (unless I had to) I could switch to caffeine free maybe if that would help??

Or what about Dr Pepper Zero or SPrite/Fanta Zero??

    help!!!

    Hi
    Welcome to our ADBB family.
What foods on the allowed list for induction do you like to eat?

Maybe get in an assortment of fresh veggies, chicken and meat as well as your favourite aged cheeses (not cottage cheese or ricotta) and some eggs and fullfat double cream.
Add to that some butter or olive oil for cooking and you are set to go!!

There are not that many 'low-carb' products available here and those that exist are over-priced and really not particularly vital or even helpful for someone starting induction eating. Stick to fresh foods and avoid most processed foods.

you mentioned staying on extended induction after 3 weeks of induction - I think you need to rethink that idea
With a total of up to 30 pounds to lose you ought to be thinking of moving to the second (main) stage of Atkins after your first 2 weeks.
OWL (ongoing weightloss) is when you will start to reintroduce different foods to your menus and discover how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight, so you need to allow time for this experiment!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Please help me make an Induction shopping list - UK

Thanks for you reply (and the PM help too) I like all the induction fresh foods and have never used or liked any of the 'low carb' foods available as I doubt the health benfits of them and they taste pretty off to me too, I am a bit of a foodie and like all natural foods(I am doing a Dietetics Degree so am funny about some things but think Atkins is a good way of eating) I am not picky about any foods whatsoever lol in fact I will eat most foods (hmm maybe that is why I have gained so much weight haha) But I enjoy fish, all meats, all cheese especially blue cheeses like stilton yum. I am not particularly fond of eggs, but like egg white omlettes, could anyone suggest a good breakfast alternative to bacon and eggs please? as it made me feel very sick last time, I was thinking smoked salmon and cream cheese rolls maybe would that be ok?

Also is diet coke ok? If it doesnt affect my weight loss should I be worried about it? I am just a little worried as it is a long time since I have done the diet and need to know if I should work on cutting it out, I know from a health point of view it isnt good for me but I dont smoke and i rarely drink so its really my drug of choice lol and thought of giving it up upsets me somewhat.

also am I allowed herbal teas and green tea?? the book is never really that specific on this and I have always been confused by it.

I shall definitely take your idea of not doing the induction for so long as what you mentioned is a good point. I am just so eager because I am fed up of being at such a high weight (for me) and eager to get back to 105lbs, but I know its a marathon not a sprint and will slow it down, otherwise i might end up failing.

I should post a hello in newbie section too maybe?

Smoked salmon/cream cheese rollups sound great!!
I usually do those for a 'bring a plate' social occasion and people just wont beleive that it is a 'diet' food!!
I often have ham/cheese rollups too for breakfast. But really you can eat any food at all first thing - one board member used to have chilli!!

Herbal and green teas (without caffeine) are good - but dont count as water!

Try to cut down on the Diet cokes - they are sweetened with aspartame which is not a recommended sweetener and might also have caffeine which is discouraged too.
If you do carry on drinking it, make sure it is as well as your minimum water, not instead of it.

thanks for that, I think I should try cut down maybe on the diet coke, is there any diet soft drinks in England that dont have aspartamane?

as for the chilli for breakfast that makes me laugh because I used to eat chicken korma for breakfast last time i did atkins lol probably not the best way of doing the plan but yes it tasted nice, I am odd with my foods haha.

Also, are pepperamis ok on induction? i am confused because of sulphites and sugars etc in processed meats, and if not on induction are they allowed in any other stage?

as far as I know there are no 'splenda-sweetened' diet fizzy drinks on sale in UK but I ma sure if there are someone will chime in with info!

I dont know what something like perrier would taste like with some splenda or davinci sugarfree syrup added bt you could try.

I have got used to plain old tapwater and find that having an occasional sparkling unsweetened water seems like a 'treat' to me! So if I am at a celebration I just order sparkling water with ice/lemon and feel festive.

Peperamis could be OK if they dont list added sugar in their ingredients. You just need to take your reading glasses to read those tiny letters to check.
