  • I'm scared to weigh myself...

I haven't weighed myself in 5 days...but the thing is, I don't want to weigh myself at all!

I'm scared that since I don't have that much weight to lose, when I eventually look at the scale, I will be disappointed and want to throw in the towel..

that is what happened the first time around and gave up after 4 weeks...i told myself that if i went back to a low calorie diet and exercised like a nut then it would be easier...well it didnt work and I gained all my weight back..

    im nervous....ay ay ay

Don't be so hard on yourself sometimes it takes longer to loose weight than other times and even if you don't loose now. you might loose very soon I read on one of the threads that if you give up cheese weigh falls of quiker works for some but not all this diet works it really does sometimes you have to look at what you are eating and make small changes. you can do it !

    you just have to stick

If you are not prepared to weigh yourself, don't do it. Nobody says you have to. And there are lots of people on here who advise against it. There are so many other ways to gauge your success that you don't need the scale. Go by how you feel and how your clothes fit.

I agree....don't do it until you are ready.

Are you curious to know if there's any difference?

How's those pants fitting? Shirts? Other clothes?

Take your measurements and start from there. You'll be so tickled to know that you are changing in inches not just in pounds

        Best wishes!

We typically don't recommend people do daily weigh-ins during this stage of Atkins. Once when you begin and again on Day 15.

Most folks can expect to lose between 5-10% of the weight they need to lose during the first 14 days. This means a person with a 100 pound goal can expect to lose 5-10 pounds and a person with a 10 pound goal can expect to lose 1/2 to 1 pound. Don't take this to mean Atkins won't work for you because it will, but it certainly isn't a "quick fix" diet.

Something to keep in mind when you weigh yourself. Even if you haven't lost as much as you want. Even if you have stayed the same weight, at least you haven't gained anything! Also concentrait on the other positives that you have gone through. Are you sleeping better? Do you have more energy? Etc. I have gone through the slow slow slow loss. I guess because I didn't have too too much to lose to begin with, but you know there has been soooo many other positives besides the weightloss, that even if I never lost another pound I would stick with this plan.
            Good luck!! Hang in there.

still have a few more pounds to go!!

Yeah I started at the same weight as you...how long have you been doing atkins?

I don't think I will weigh myself until I'm confident I have lost weight. I know even just seeing the 130's will be good enough, considering I haven't seen them in over 2 years!!

Congratulations for not weighing yourself. Thats wonderful and you should be proud of yourself.

Don't attach any importance to a clunky metal doodad.
It has no power over you. The scale cannot measure your metabolic processes.

You can go down entire sizes on Atkins and never see any movement on the scale.

Hehehe I wish I could remember when I started! I think I have been on it no more than a month and a half? BUT one thing I have found out. I weigh more now than I did when I was this size before. Last time I was this size I weighed 127 lbs. In other words I am fitting into the same clothes at 135 lbs as I did when I was 127 lbs. Sounds weird but it's true. I think that it is because the Atkins lets you keep a much greater percentage of your muscle mass while you are losing weight. And muscle weighs more than fat. Also... I have lost three inches off my waist while the scale actually went up a pound or two! Yes you will have ups and downs, but with this diet the scale seems to mean less than on other diets. You really have to go with how you look and feel and the size of your clothes. Go and look at the before and after pics on here. One thing I noticed again and again. The scale weight loss was sooo much less than the visual weight loss. People who looked transformed did so while only having lost like 11 lbs. Again I think it is due to the fact that you actually get to keep your muscle mass.
So, the long and short of it? Use the scale only as a means to see that you are going in the right direction and dont worry too much over the actual poundage.

you're right i shouldn't dwell on the scale..i did, however, measure my waist and im down an inch after 8 days. i've noticed my face looks thinner too. im almost tempted to not weigh myself for 3 months so i don't talk myself out of anything...

Re: I'm scared to weigh myself...

Totally.... don't weigh... just go by inches lost....

Also. I try to feel the tension in my skin. Even when I don't feel that I'm loosing I can FEEL it.. ha.

                      Another trick.

Buy a SMALL pair of pants or a shirt that you WANT to fit into . It should be about 2 sizes smaller than where you are on now and it should fit TIGHT!

Then... try to put it on like... once a week or every other week.

Even if you dont' see a difference in inches and weight you can OFTEN feel the difference when putting on the pants
