...not to go too long without eating?

I'm starting Induction this weekend after I go grocery shopping. I've been cutting back on various things this week & switching some things I eat to brace myself for the changes. I know the conventional wisdom is not to go longer than six waking hours without eating, and every 3 hours or so is best.

So this morning on the way in to work, I had some hazelnut coffee and macadamia nuts. YUM. That filled me up till about 9ish or so, when I started to feel hungry. I have the kind of job that makes it difficult just to stop and eat every couple of hours, so I just decided I'd skip eating till about 1pm. (Bad decision.) Then I had a can of albacore tuna mixed with a couple spoonfuls of dill-flavored dip, spread on those revolution rolls with a little shredded cheese mixed in. By the time I ate, I was starting to feel pretty shaky and weak, which is exactly what I expect when I go that long without eating.

But what surprised me was that even now, two hours after eating, I still feel nauseous. It wasn't that big a lunch. Am I nauseous because I went so long without eating and then packed that "heavy" food into an empty stomach? Or did I underestimate the satiating properties of protein and fat? Or both?

I doubt I'm in ketosis yet, since I haven't started induction. But I will say that the food in this WOE definitely kills the appetite, whether you're in ketosis or not.

Advice appreciated, if the questions made any sense. Oh, and I nearly forgot - I am absolutely 100% NOT pregnant.

Leaving the house without a proper breakfast is always a mistake for Atkineers. We need to eat a full hearty breakfast. Bacon and eggs. An omelet. Steak and eggs. We leave the house completely full. Now is the time to get a taste of butter and meat fat in your mouth that reassures the body you aren't starving and it is safe to release the fast stores.

Then your blood got spiked by drinking caffeine. This is so damaging for the body. It gives a false high, followed by a deeper low. Its best to just give up coffee and drink decaf. I did and it has made such a positive difference in my life.

You state that you ate hazelnuts which aren't allowed on induction and aren't filling and aren't capable of giving you that full feeling that will please your body and give it the reassurence you aren't starving it. You can add small portions of nuts back on the appropriate owl level.

I'm not sure what revolution rolls are, but low carb products aren't appropriate for induction and, in my opinion, aren't helpful to any Atkineer.

We do our best to avoid manufactured, overprocessed products and there really isn't any reason not to just buy and eat fresh healthy food all the time.

The tuna is fine by itself. Thats how I eat it, and I love it. I have broken my dependence on needing bread products in my life. They are suprisingly easy to live without.

Finally, where were your veggies? You can have 3 cups of veggies on induction, and for me, I enjoyed having some at every meal.

You are headed in the right direction. Start induction, don't wait. Read the 2002 DANDR, read the stickys at the top of this forum. Keep yourself full.

I've heard the rumor about induction flu, but I didn't experience it, I just felt great.

The recipe is in the induction recipes thread on this forum. They consist of egg, cream of tartar, onion powder, and cream cheese (& maybe one other non-carb ingredient I'm forgetting). They aren't pre-made low-carb products. Other than that, points well taken.
