  • Can't get into ketosis???!!!

    Hi,

    I just can't seem to do it. Have been on the diet for 2 weeks and eating the correct food.

    I perhaps haven't been eating enough does that make sense.

    I used to be on atkins and lost 3 stone dead easy. Just stopped breastfeeding my son at 1 yr and it doesn't seem to be working!!!

    Can you post exactly what you ate yesterday? We may be able to spot something that you didnt.

      Hi, I just sent you a mail (how odd).

      I ate an omlette for breakfast. Cheese strings for lunch and for tea i ate chicken in a cream, white wine and mushroom sauce (very little mushrooms and wine) I also ate an atkins choc bar for phase one.

      Is that ok? It was under 20 carbs.

        are you losing weight though? Im still in the moderate range of ketosis (using ketostix) but ive lost 9 lbs in the last couple of days.

          don't know how long ago yopu did Atkins but in 2002 the rules changed and 3 cups of acceptable veggies a day are required.

          Why do you say you arre not in ketosis?

          Bars are a big issue as they are known by the Atkins corporatrion to cause stalling of weight loss. there used to be a page on the Atkins.com site that told folk what to do if eating them stalled them and basically the answer was don't eat them.

          Do you have any of the physical symptoms of ketosis the breath change smell of your urine loss of appetite, more energy just to name a few? the stix do not measure all 3 kinds of ketones from the body and if you are burning the type it measures and only peeing acetone the nonburnable form then you will not get color change in your stix.

          What you doing for your mandatorey exercise part of your Atkins you could be burning the ketones up and not have any excess for peeing out.

          Congrats on your new little one. remember your hormones will be fluctuating right now too so things may go slower but they will go.

            Hi,

            Thank you for the congratulations!

            I was looking through some other posts and i haven't eaten any bars today and i haven't had any drinks containing sweetners and the stick this evening is starting to change colour.

            My exercise at the moment just consists of running around after my little one, however i have just joined the gym so will not worry now if my sticks go back to neutral.

            I also don't think i was drinking enough fluids.

            Ihope i start to loose soon! i did this diet before i fell pregnant and loved it and was really slim so know its fab and works just seen to have forgotton everything.

                This is the trick I use for getting into ketosis. For one whole day I eat nothing but meat or eggs and drink water. By day 2 you should be in ketosis. Just check with your keto sticks. Works for me!

                  for me it took 3 days of eating noting but eggs and meat and the keto sticks turned dark purple the next morning, now I am adding a small amount of veges and one slice of cheese a day. its best to use the keto sticks at night before bed or in the morning ,during the day when your drinking alot of water it can dilute your urine and cause the test to be a lighter color. also make sure you read the ingredients on all food labels and even seasonings, there is often sugar in places you would not expect it.

                    Okay folks, time for a little sternness to set in here....Yes, we all want to be in ketosis because that's where it's at for fat burning. But, it should not be at the expense of your health. 3 CUPS OF VEGETABLES per day are a requirement. If you aren't eating your vegetables, you are NOT doing Atkins. You'll be doing someone else's version of Atkins WHO FAILED and got their story on the news or in the paper because they ended up in ketoacidosis or some other horrific health problem. Why on earth would you want to do that??? Now, granted I could be being a bit dramatic here, but I will repeat, VEGETABLES are REQUIRED. WATER is REQUIRED. You don't need to just eat meat and eggs to make this plan work, so why are you torturing your bodies that way? There are vitamins, minerals, FIBER in those vegetables that your BODIES NEED.

                    You WILL go into ketosis eating them. Those stupid sticks may not change color, but your body WILL go into ketosis and you WILL lose weight. If you've got a funny taste in your mouth, or your perspiration smells stronger than normal, or if your urine smells stronger than normal, you're in ketosis...IRREGARDLESS of what the sticks say.

                    Get rid of the bars, shakes, and the sticks and follow the plan as it was intended and it WILL happen. I promise. I've lost almost 50 lbs and haven't peed on a stick yet. I've eaten vegetables every single day for 4 months and never had a problem with bowel movement. There are scores of people on this forum that don't use the sticks, eat their vegetables and have lost hundreds of pounds.

                      I did. I haven't a clue what happened. It contained much the same as i've written on here.
