  • Is sausage for omelet completely out of sugar?

I had omelet with diced sausages today. I couldn't find the nutrition fact for the sausages but they didn't taste sweet at all. It means that they are out of sugar right? during the induction phase, am I allowed to have some limited sugar (as long as the whole meals doesn't go over 20g in carb) or no sugar at all?

The lack of a sweet taste doesn't mean there is no sugar present. This is especially true during Induction, when our tastebuds are still used to sugary foods. You would be surprized how sweet some foods are due to the added sugar.

During Induction, you cannot have 'added sugar'. What is added sugar? All vegetables and fruits contain sugar naturally. That kind of sugar is okay. Added sugar is sugar that is added to a food. So you need to read the ingredients list of a food to see if sugar is there. Also sugar has a number of different names. There is a sticky thread at the top of this forum with a list of the "Sugar Aliases".

Instead of buying commercial sausage, why not buy ground pork and season it yourself. You can buy it in the fresh meat case. It's really easy and you can control what seasoning you put in it. I add salt, pepper (if you like it spicy, make it red pepper), and some sage. That's all. You will be sure that there's nothing in this that you shouldn't have. It will be leaner than commercial sausage as well.

Another note, porkburgers make great alternatives to hamburgers for a change. Use the ground pork, season with salt and pepper, and grill. Yum!!

It might be a good idea to read the book called Dr Atkins' New Diet Revolution! Tasting a food for sugar content won't work; consider onions and their high carb count. Not many people would ever guess that onions have lots of sugar.
