Im trying this "induction" . but heres the roadblocks ive come accross so far.

    1. All the soft drinks i can find have asparatame... I can't find sucralose. Maybe its a Canadian thing.

    2. Is it okay to have the "atkins wrap" featured at Subways with the standard atkins diet. ie no sugary dressings...

    3. How long should I keep this diet?

    4. My family members have "heard" of ppl getting sick on this diet... If so should i see a doctor?

    5. Is it okay to have broccolli on induction.

My diet includes; (let me know if i should change it)

Breakfest: have a omlette with cheese

    Lunch/snack:
. Have some atkins beef jerky or peporoni sticks

Dinner: Some meat and two cups of veggies with a sourcream dip.

Water:as much diet cola as I can drink Wich is about six to eight a day

Anywho thanks for all the help These forums are great!

    Re: noob questions

I would recommend giving up the diet sodas.....you know the stuff isn't good for you, and they can cause problems with stalling...

      Re: noob questions

There is a sweetner (splenda or sweet-n-low) limit of 3 per day. Even if you find the diet drinks with Splenda (Diet Rite, Diet Coke with Splenda) you should limit them to no more than 2 or 3 a day (l being optimal). Drinking these drinks do not count towards your water quota for the day, which should be at least 64 ounces plus another 8 ounces for every 25 lbs you need to drop. Another way to figure your water quota is to divide you weight in half. Example, I am 166 so I should drink 83 ounces per day.

Hope this helps! And Welcome to the board.

        Re: noob questions

Hi back again, seen something else I can help with. Yes broccoli is a great veggi for induction. Don't know if you have read the book. That would be the first step here, but induction calls for 20 net carbs per day. Veggis are a must. You can have l or 2 cups of salad veggies and then l cup of other low carb veggie, or l cup of salad and two of the others. Figure out what the carb content of these and then work from there to meet up to your 20 net carbs for the day. WWW.Fitday.com is a great site to plug your foods into to check your levels. There are so many pros out there that will come back and give you more advice.

I wouldn't go for the Subway wrap just yet. Think you should wait unti you hit the grains rung later on in OWL. Definitely not an induction food.

Hope all this helps you. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Stick to water if you can. The sodium in soft drinks tend to promote water retention.

If you can't do w/o softdrinks, at least wait until after the 14-day clean induction before trying out aspartame. You've got a 1 in 5 chance of stalling. If you're lucky, the softdrinks won't stall you.

          2. Is it okay to have the "atkins wrap" featured at Subways with the standard atkins diet. ie no sugary dressings...
          I don't know what's in it so I can't answer that.

          3. How long should I keep this diet?
Until you die, unless you want to gain al the weight back. The same is true for any diet.

Other that, certain conditions may keep you from going on Atkins. Those with kidney disease can't. Pregnant women should eat as if they're on maintenance at least.

          4. My family members have "heard" of ppl getting sick on this diet... If so should i see a doctor?
Depends on what you mean by "sick".

Seeing your doctor is a good idea, BUT, a lot of doctors are anti-Atkins. Also nutrition isn't taught much in medical schools. At the very least, get your bloodwork done prior to starting and check it every 6-months.

The main "sickness" that occurs is called the induction flu. It actually occurs with any radical change in diet, not just Atkins.

          5. Is it okay to have broccolli on induction.
Foods that can be eaten on induction.

Also, print the graphic below and put it in your wallet...

You really need the book to do this the healthy way. I suspect tha anyone who has gotten sick doing this diet just didn't know how to do it the right way. And, you really do have to drink your water while doing this. It is a natural diuretic and you absolutely need the extra water. By the way, even diet sodas contain amounts of carbs. Here's a link to get the book for 75 cents:

I agree with everything above and also the only splenda sweetened soft drinks in Canada are diet orange Crush and Diet crush cream soda and Jones soda diet black cherry. Coke with splenda has not come here yet. I tried it when in the states and found it far too sweet . But as said above there is a sweetener limit, you are goig way over that with the amount you are driking.

Okay I bought the book but id like to stay on induction while I wait for it in the mail wich could be a couple of weeks. Can someone help teach me on how to count carbs of allowable food... Thanks
                I didn't expect such a response.

I just wheighed myself for the first time:P I weigh 304 lbs and Im 6'2". So i guess I have to drink 150ounces of water. How much can I expect to lose while on induction and how long till I weigh 190?

                  Hello stretch
                  Welcome to our ADBB family!

There is a good website that a lot of us use (which is free) where you can enter foods you are thinking of eating and it will work out your carb count for you.
                  www.fitday.com

I use it each day to help me work out my eating plans and keep records of how many carbs I am eating.
So just pick the foods you like from the allowed list of induction foods and see how your chosen favourites add up.

Most of us lose between 5% and 10% of our hoped-for loss while doing a 'clean' induction for 14 days. This means not eating anything not on the list, drinking our water, eating our 3 cups of vegetables from the list, exercising and in general following the rules of induction.

For you with 114 pounds to lose you will probably lose between 5 and 11 pounds to be within the 'normal' amounts.

The time it will take you to reach your goal weight will vary depending on how well you follow the rules as well as be affected by your own body metabolism.

Once you have completed your first 14 days on induction the amount that you do lose will help you work out if you are one of those lucky people who lose weight easily, or one who loses slowly, and make a guess at how long it will take you.

I look forward to you joining us in our journey towards better health and trimmer figures!!

                        Re: noob questions

To add the sour cream dip you need to go to the part of the food page where it says add custom food. Then put in whatever is on the back of the dip nutrition label. You can just click it to add anytime after that.

You subtract fiber from your total carbs and then you should have 20 or less left. That is for induction level.

                          Re: noob questions

This is not a diet. It is a permanent lifestyle. If you have a carb addiction, you adopt the Atkins lifestyle for life. Be sure to read all the stickys at the top of the induction forum and good luck to you.

Yes of course, see your doctor, but know that many doctors have no clue what Atkins is about. The doctors that do understand Atkins are big fans of the lifestyle. I suggest you read "Free advice and worth every dime you spent on it" by papajack_1 in the memorable posts forum. It details one Atkineers experience with his doctor. And it is hilarious.

Broccoli is awesome, but be sure and count the carbs. Only 3 cups of veggies during induction.
