  • help :(

I am on Induction day 18 and i have not cheated once....no cheats at all. This morning i stepped on the scale and i am back at 172 - my starting weight. I am about to cry. I lost 4 lbs the first week, nothing the second week, and now the third week 4lbs back. And i know people might say i am losing inches...but NONE of my clothes fit better. My TOM was 2 weeks ago - so it's not that. I don't know what to do. I have worked out 16 of the 18 days...whether that be a 4 mile run or a spin class or a body sculpting class (i was really active before atkins). I also drink about 90oz of water a day.
I'm SO frustrated....i don't know what to do - i am following this by the book....i feel like atkins just won't work for me...........AGHHHHHHHHHHHH.
    Please help!

    Here is my fitday:

I am using non-cured bacon & dukes mayo (no sugar).

    Re: help

THe things that stuck out at me.....
4Tablespoons is a LOT of mayo. so is 3. I assume (YIKES!) that you are eating it with the tuna. Try having your tuna a little on the dryer side. See if you can get by with 1 tablespoon.
How much sodium are you consuming? (notonly from the shaker but whats occuring in foods)
Increasing/changing workouts can cause your muscles to retain water (they store it up when a new or different demand is placedon them only to release it later)
Have you taken your measurements with a tape measure?
How much weight do you have to lose?

      Re: help

Well my workout shouldn't be the problem cause I worked out this much before atkins.

As for sodium - i eat the low sodium bacon & tuna and never salt my food - i use the morton's salt-substitute- which is just potassium.

As for the mayo - i used Duke's cause it doesn't have sugar...i have a tablespoon in the morning with the tuna and then for lunch i use 2 tablespoons for my chicken salad. Without the mayo - i was having trouble getting my fat up.

I don't know what to do.

        Re: help

        What to do?

It's easy. Keep on keepin' on. Don't give up. This isn't about instant gratification, and I know you're thinking "18 days?!" - but in the whole scope of things, what is 18 days?!!

If your TOM ended 2 weeks ago, you're likely on the uphill climb back to PMSville. For me that equals water retention among other things.

Working out like you are, you are adding muscle and burning fat - especially if your calories are staying right around what your Fitday says you are. It isn't always going to reflect on the scale, and just because the inches aren't going down doesn't negate the fact that you're burning body fat. You can burn 1/4" of body fat off your arms, but if you're building muscle - you can add that 1/4" back on - only it'll be much prettier

Seriously. Hang in there. If the scale discourages you to the point where you're considering jumping ship - STAY OFF THAT SUCKER. Give yourself time, your body opportunity to catch up to your efforts, and know that there's more to this way of eating than just weight loss. You are eating healthier, my bet is that if you're like most of us your hair, nails and skin are looking fantastic, and you're feeling better. It's a total package kind of thing that you have to look at!

        Chin up!

          Re: help

          I totally agree with Brook.

Did you know I went through a 6 month period of time where I didn't lose any weight? I was following the book, exercising, ---doing everything I was supposed to be doing, but one week the scale would be down 3 pounds, the next week it was up 3 pounds. My clothes seemed to fit the same way. I looked the same in the mirror. I was at my wits end and if it wasn't for the health improvements, I probably would have thrown in the towel. But at the end of 6 months, I went shopping and decided to buy a dress to make myself feel better (even though I didn't lose anything). Whaddya know! I tried on my usual size and it was too big. I tried on one size smaller and it was too big. I tried on a size smaller than that and it was still too big. I felt like Goldilocks for a while there and finally I tried on a size that was just right: I was 3 sizes smaller.

So don't give up. You're body is changing and you might not see the results every Monday morning.

Also you might want to include your stats (height, start weight, current weight, goal weight) in your siggy. That way, we could give advice more suitable to your particular situation.

            Re: help

Thanks everyone - i guess I am just frustrated because while all my roommates and friends were out partying this weekend & the past coupld of weekends - i stayed in to avoid the peer pressure to drink and i feel like i have nothing to show for it.

I did show positive for the yeast spit test - do you think i should try the KISS diet?

(and i added my stats to my signature)

              Re: help

You can lose entire sizes on Atkins and see no scale movement at all. Weight fluctuation, up and down is completely normal. Which is why it is best to stay away from the scale entirely, it cannot measure metabolic processes.

I cannot understand why people continue to to make themselves miserable over a clunky piece of tin. I haven't weighed in 6 months and I don't give a dilly dam bang what that number is. My clothing fits, I am able to run without breathing heavily, I am full all the time and can eat as much I want to - I feel great. What in the world do I need a scale for? What possible service does it provide in life?
