  • Cheese/Heavy Cream

    Hi

OK, the deal with the 4 oz. you can have of cheese a day. Is that the same thing as Heavy Cream too? Would 2 oz. cheese + 2 oz. heavy cream be your day or is it 4 oz. cheese, then whatever on heavy cream.

    Re: Cheese/Heavy Cream

It is 4 ounces on the cheese, cream cheese is included in cheeses. You are allowed 2 to 3 tablespoons of Cream (Heavy or half n half). Just remember to include these in your carb count for the day. Hope this helps!

yeah... heavy whipping cream has some carbs so go light at first...

I love it too... especially with splenda but you need to be careful.

Good question. I have always considered half & half as light cream. Sure someone will step in with an answer.

            Re: Cheese/Heavy Cream

Cheese and heavy cream are two different things.

Cheese is limited to 3-4 ounces daily.

Heavy cream is limited to 2-3 tablespoons daily. But, it is also mentioned in the Special Category Foods list at 3 fluid ounces. 3 fluid ounces is about a 1/3 cup or about 5 tablespoons. Special Category Foods are noted to cause weight loss problems in some folks and might need to be avoided.

Half-and-half. The book says the only dairy allowed is butter, cream and cheese. I think in the short cut Atkins books published after Dr. Atkin's death, half-and-half is listed as okay. Personally, I don't use half-and-half because you can make your own half-and-half by mixing the heavy cream with a slightly less than equal amount of water.
