  • DAY 1, 4 HOURS IN & I'M ALREADY STRUGGLING

    Hi All,

Well this is the first day of induction and i've only been up 4 hours and i'm already struggling.

I'm drinking my water which isn't a problem but i'm constantly thinking about food and I feel so hungry ~ I NEVER feel hungry usually.

I have had 2 hard boiled eggs, 20 olives and i've just opened a small tin of John West Crab Meat.

I'm already thinking of packing it in. Why am I so weak willed!

I just don't know if I can do this

Eat some fat. have a couple of slices of cheese. it is the fats that satiate and satisfy the hunger, which is why it is best to have bacon or something with those eggs for the first few days. Don't give up, it gets easier, especially after day 3 or so.

      Awww thank you for that.

I will remember the fat for tomorrow. I'm currently at work and don't have any cheese with me.

Lou, I agree with Analog6 (odille) eat something high in fat. It will make you feel much fuller.

          Hang on there
Have you got loads of legal food and snacks lined up to eat? For the first few days make sure you eat whenever you feel hungry, and as Odille said - make the food highfat to start to make you feel satisfied.
Maybe make those hardboiled eggs into devilled eggs to up the fat content a bit more too?

Try to take it in small steps - making sure every bite you eat is legal, and celebrate each victory over carby temptations!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Go to the grocery store and get yourself lots of things to eat.

Pepperoni, cream cheese, cheese sticks, boiled eggs, sweet peppers, celery sticks, salad. Chop up the peppers and celery sticks ahead of time. Boil the eggs ahead.

Cook some chicken breasts in olive oil and then cut up fajita style and store in a container for quick grab and go chicken. You can do the same with any meat. The biggest thing you can do to help yourself at this point, is to be prepared! You want to make sure that when you are truly hungry, you have something to eat on hand.

                            Fat or green tea.........
deviled eggs works well ... Fat tells the brain that you're full.

The main reason though is because you're blood sugar is probably low.

This will fade in 3 days but you HAVE to kick it. think about it... if you go through atkins you'll spend the rest of your life healthy. Three days is perfectly fine....... right?

Stick with it.....eat more fat... and exercise.. and you'll have no problems.

Re: DAY 1, 4 HOURS IN & I'M ALREADY STRUGGLING

You can do this! Everyone has said to increase the fat, and it does make it so much easier. I think I read somewhere that fat content should be about 60% of your calories on this diet. (I know it seems counter-productive, but it really does help curbe the cravings.)

This is my second time around with Atkins. My husband has been on it since 2002, and has done great. I spent several months in the hospital, and they don't do Atkins there (go figure!) so I had to start over. I do know that it DOES GET BETTER. I don't get nearly as hungry now as I did before. Even my 3-6 pm. problem time is better.

One thing that helped me stay focused is to use www.fitday.com and chart out my foods for the next day before I go to bed. I don't always put actual quantites in until I eat, but it seems to give me comfort in knowing that I KNOW what I've planned to eat. If I stick to those foods on the list for the day, things can't go too bad. I also journal a little each day on the site -- set goals for myself, note "aha" moments, and accomplishments. They might not seem like much at the time, but when I look back over them, I feel like I'm in control, not the food!

Good luck and stay in touch. Listen to these lovely people. They've been an inspiration to me!
