  • Hi Everyone! 2nd Day Of Induction Have Some ???

Hi everyone! My name is Kim and I'm a 25 year old mother of three beautiful children ages 7,3 and 10 months. I just thought I'd stop in and introduce myself I am currently a plus-size model and am really wanting to drop 100 pounds not only for my health but for my children also. I never knew how tough this was going to be until I woke up today craving all of the stuff I have just givin up. This morning I was pouring a bowl of cereal for my kids and it was really hard to not pour myself one as well but I didn't! If anyone has any tips or advice they can give me on what they eat or any helpful recipes that would be much appreciated Also, does anyone know how to start a journal on here??

    Welcome to

Congrats on NOT eating the cereal. Wow a model. I am pretty new to this too. My first advice would be to get the BOOK. There are tons of good recipes on here & lots of great support. To start a journal you go to the main forum & Under the journal chat tab post a new Thread. Journal stats are to keep up w/ your eating & exercise without the chat. Fitday.com is a big help too

You can find help on here & motivation!

      Hi Kimberly!
      Welcome!
I have a 2 year old and I am always so tempted to steal a bite of his cereal, mac & cheese, cookies, etc. Yeah, it can be tedious making meals for the family and being on Atkins. In the mornings, I have gotten my son into hard boiled eggs, he likes to snack on shredded cheese, celery/cream cheese, but still for his dinner, I make him pasta every night, it's his favorite thing!

Just make sure you have your own foods ready to eat. If you see you are tempted to take your kids foodies, just go in the fridge and grab yourself something too. Fitday.com is really good!

      Good luck!

Hi ladies! Thanks for the great advice and tips! I'm glad that someone knows what I'm going through, it's hard to sit here and eat tuna and hard boiled eggs and watch my kids eat their snacks but I'm getting used to it. I have a question though.. Now I know with induction you're only allowed 3 cups per day of vegetables but say I went to McDonald's and ordered one of their Bacon Ranch Salads and took the carrots out of course is that safe to eat or should I split it in half because I know there's more than three cups of lettuce alone in the salad?

You could split it in half, that would be a great idea, especially if you are planning on eating other veggies that day too. Careful with the dressings too!

Hah ,your McDonalds has salads....Lucky girl. I usaully just let the kids have what they want & get myself a pork plate at the local BBQ place (no sauce) But as long as you are watching the ingredients, portions & dressing you should be ok.

Yeah, when I go to McDonald's, I get the Double Cheese Burger....it's so cheap, it's only a 5 cent different to the normal Cheese Burger. Weird. But yeah, i'll eat 1 or 2, so yummy.

Ok, sorry about all of the questions but here's another one... When I read the Adkins book it gives you a list of foods you can eat liberally, does that mean you can eat as much of it as you want?

Dr. Atkins said to "eat till you are satisfied not stuffed". & make sure you have the updated book. I think the old one didnt have a limit on cheese the new one does.

Ok kewl, cheese was the next question. I bought some extra sharp cheddar today, I read the label and it says it has 0 carbs... Does that mean I can eat as much as I want?

For the cheese, you can eat 4 oz. of cheese a day, I don't know about it being zero carbs....I think it has to do with the dairy on the diet for induction. LIke Heavy Cream you can have, but it's under "special" because it may not cause you to lose weight.

Most cheeses do have some carb - generally 1 g per cu. inch.

Days 1-3 of induction are usually the toughest. So look forward to it will be getting so much easier.

Same questions come up on this board all the time - do some searches from the search tab; advanced with titles only selected will find you lots of answers to beginner questions, like how much you can eat. Also the fat should comprise 65% of your days' caloric intake, protein 30% and carbs 5%. Fitday calculates it for you when you enter your menu. Figuring your meals gets easier, too.

Since you seem more than covered in the help category by citsim, let me just welcome you to the board. I would encourage you to experiment by eating some new items and especially trying some new dishes, like the recipes found at Linda's Low Carb. What was key for me was to find some new low carb foods I really liked or to treat myself to formerly forbidden foods, like 16 oz ribeyes. Point is you have to find what is an acceptable comfort food for you. It might be as simple as 2 oz of really good cheese. Again welcome to the site, and I wish you much perserverence against temptation.

Ok, so I went to Fitday and tried putting in some of the foods I've eaten today and the percentage it was I am confused about. I put in one chicken breast and it put me at 51%, I don't know how it figured that because chicken doesn't have a lot of fat in it. I understand that I am supposed to eat until I am satisfied, not stuffed but if I am to stay within 65% of my fat intake I don't know how that's possible. I went to Wendy's for dinner and was starving because all I ate today were egg whites so I ordered three Jr. Bacon cheese burgers minus the bun and ketchup and also ordered a side salad which I didn't eat much of. I know I'm well over 65% with the three hamburger patties which had bacon and mayo on them. I am having a whole lot of trouble and am about to just quit eating altogether.. If someone can give me an idea of what they eat for a day I could get a better idea of what I'm supposed to be doing and how to stay within the 65% range of fat intake.

                            Thanks
                            ~Kim~

Really aged cheddar may be close to 0 carbs, but more than likely it is just less than 1g. To be safe, I'd count it as 1g anyway. As for how much, I agree with the previous poster you are still limited by the 3-4 oz limit daily no matter what the carb totals. Remember, you are relearning how to eat not simply eating to 20g or less per day. By regulating how much on some foods to eat, you avoid some of the pitfalls or stalls that some foods can cause.

One additional thing to be careful about that was mentioned above is salad dressings at Mc Donalds. If its Newman's Own, the Ranch is 9g per packet, which is way too high.
