  • Have a couple of questions if anyone can help???

Hi everyone I am in my third day of induction and doing great so far, I've lost three pounds and I feel fantastic! I am just curious though if I am allowed to eat almonds during this time? I wasn't sure but I was told by a couple of people I could have both cheese and almonds as a quick snack. Also, I absolutely hate drinking water so I've been adding the Crystal Light packets to my bottled water but I was reading on here that it's not always good to drink stuff with substitute sweeteners in them because your body will actually turn them into carbs or what not. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get my daily intake of water without having to dread it?

Nuts are now allowed on induction, but they do come in later once you get to OWL.

Crystal Light has aspertame and from what I've read, it's been known to slow weight loss in some people.

Straight water is the best way to go, in my opinion, but I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you some suggestions and/or more info than I can.

Good luck to you and congrats on your 3 pounds.

very few folk started Atkins loving drinking water. Give it a go and you will learn to like it just like you are learning not to eat sweets and high carb foods.

i hate water. i sneak in a crystal light here and there. but i find whe i add fresh lemon or lime to my water it's more tollerable. this is my thousandth time back on the diet and after a few weeks you will get used to the water and even find yourself craving it.

        good luck!

Re: Have a couple of questions if anyone can help???

I'm so glad you feel fantastic!

I'm onto my second week now and i feel the same. In fact i think its starting to annoy people! and i love that

          A few suggestions

          • Get yourself a pop top bottle. (just go buy any old bottle water from the shops and reuse the bottle).

Fill it, and take a mouthful/sip every 5 minutes. Before you know it the bottle will be empty. Refill and repeat. Carry the bottle with you everywhere (ok maybe not to the toilet since your drinking more you'll be there more as well!)
          • If the water in your area tastes like crud, buy the big containers from the store, or try boiling it etc.
Side note: Before i started atkins (a week and a bit ago as i type this) i lived off coke / cordial / milo (an australian milk chocolate type drink) / and all the funky caramel coffee's etc you can think of. Now i drink 4 litres (135 oz) or more a day from the tap (until i get a water filter) at room temperature so i'm not just saying this.
          • To change things up get some sparkling mineral water. It's basically soda water.. but made from mineral water (higher sodium so don't go overboard now). Add a twist of lemon into it. I drink it without the lemon (but my parter suggested the lemon) when i'm feeling a little hungry later into the night (i'm really not hungry its just my nocturnal, watch tv, eat yourself stupid comfort food habit kicking in.) Plus i like the feel of the bubbles
          • Force yourself. Darn why did i say that? because your just going to have to because:
            • The weight seems to come off much faster if you get that water in.
            • You think you feel great now? It's amazing how you feel when you've put 3 litres or more (101 oz) into your system.
            • Most people walk around partially dehydrated and this has a dramatic effect on everything, from your mood to your skin.
          Cheers

          AND DRINK UP!

You have been given excellent advice!

2big is so right. Most of us here where the same way. WATER.....eeeeeeewwwwwww.
Honest (trust me!!) you will acquire a taste for it and actually start to crave it. Your body will be so much healthier with it and I firmly believe it assists in weight lose. There is no replacement for plain old water!
Whatever works for you to get it in. Lemon, some people use cucumber slices (be surprised what a nice flavor that adds). How many meals are you eating a day. I eat six and have a glass of water with every meal. One in the morning for my vitamins and 1 in the evening with vitamins. Wallla.....8 glasses down without even thinking about it! But, I add alot more in between!

Re: Have a couple of questions if anyone can help???

Thanks ladies for the great advice! I'm just gonna have to suck it up and drink as much as I can until I get used to it. I think the most I drank today was a little over a liter but that's a lot for me because before I started Adkin's I was drinking only Diet Pepsi and Ised Coffee's from Dunkin' Donuts and rarely touched a drop of water. I have a couple of other questions also, I noticed some people have certificates on their page for either walking or whatnot. Is there a place on this site that you have to go to sign up for a certain challenge? I'd like to start racking up the certs. lol! I've been reading about the boot camp thing also and since I'm already 5 days into my induction would it be worth signing up for that? I'm doing pretty good right now and have lost 5 pounds in 5 days so I think I'm on the right track.

I like sparkling water, like Perrier, with a little lemon in it. It tastes so refreshing to me!

Also, I make my own iced tea with herbal decaf tea bags. Then when it's made, maybe i'll add a little splenda or cream to the drink or just lots of lemon. It's nice to have the pitcher in the fridge for when i'm hating water. I like the brand, Celestrial something...Sugarplum is my favorite with cream. I also like the peach and then mint (good with cucumber). You can concoct your own mix of teas with whatever you like in it (lemon, lime, splenda, cucumber), it's sooo good!
