  • Eggs - They just don't fill me up

So I am an example of someone who was a major carb & sweet- aholic but still ate a lot of protein. And I always ate protein first thing in the morning to stabilize my blood sugar.

    Here is my issue-

I know a lot of people start to feel much better b/c they are now eating eggs first thing in the morning (instead of pastries), but it is what I have always done, so I don't really feel fulfilled and now that I am officially in induction. I just don't get a satiated feeling eating them. But they don't set off triggers of cravings necessarily.

Anyone have a similiar experience or any suggestions?

we don't eat to be fufilled ( see the emotional forum for help if you need food to fufill your life), but to provide the energy our bodies need. Since you already eat eggs if you want a change eat dinner for breakfast. think outside the box.

You may also want to try adding something to your eggs. Replace one egg with some other form of protein. You may be able to trick you body into feeling full. You could also throw some mushrooms or cheese in there. The more you "add" to your morning meal, the more full you may feel.

Personally, I love steakums and eggs with cheese. I have a hearty breakfast because I exercise in the morning and I don't eat again until around 1pm. I really don't feel hungry until then. Hope this helps.

As good as eggs are, they are low in fat. Eating fat goes a long way in staving off hunger and filling you up.

I don't find that eggs alone fill me up either but once I add 2 or 3 slices of bacon it is filling. Have you tried eating the eggs with either some meat whether it be bacon, sausage, ham, etc. or just adding an ounce or two of cheese cubes? Think you will be okay if you add some sort of fat content to your breakfast. Good luck with that.

Re: Eggs - They just don't fill me up

When i'm not feeling full (for me its more a night time thing if it does happen) one of these has happened.
            • I didn't get enough healthy fats with my meal
(adding some grated cheese does it for me or some more meat)
            • I didn't eat enough (sometimes you automatically don't put enough on the plate.. when in reality with this woe you need to eat up)
            • I'm actually thirsty (often still feeling hungry is your body asking for more water)
            • or its just emotional eating and a conditioned response to the way i was eating before.

            Cheers

              Hi kjspea!

I agree with the responses above...and I also think a lot of the 'unfullfilled feelings' are just habits that need to be broken. It takes some time to develop new habits, replace old with new and not miss the old stuff. Give it some time, and keep going.

And if eggs aren't doing it for you, make a little extra dinner and have that for breakfast!

              Take care, stay strong!

Re: Eggs - They just don't fill me up

I've found that if I just scramble a couple of eggs with some cream, I'm hungry way too soon. But if I add even a little cheese or canadian bacon or sausage mixed in, I stay full for hours. I've also mixed them with green peppers and onions, and get a huge satisfying plate of food.

From your initial post when you said "it's what I've always done" I couldn't tell whether you meant that you've always eaten eggs for breakfast in the past. If that's the case, then the question is why you were full then, and you're not now. Could be that you're shorting yourself on the side dish (did you used to have toast with your eggs?) Think about what you can add back to replace what's missing. You might be missing that feeling of having something on the side, even if you're getting enough food in.

And, remember that you don't have to eat eggs for breakfast! Have a hamburger.

                    p.s.

Just noticed on your sample menu that you're only eating egg whites. You'll get hungry much faster if you don't eat the yolk. That's where all the (healthy) fat and calories are. On Atkins, enjoy the whole egg!

                      I stand corrected.

Still, the amount of fat one can get from 2 eggs is low compared to other foods like meats. Omelettes did wonders for me during induction.

I don't really like just plain eggs myself...so I'd suggest adding something to them. For me, a tiny bit of cheese, a couple tablespoons of Onions and peppers and occasionally- like once a week or so, a quarter of avocado cut up, make it better for me. Also, like someone mentioned...you don't have to have eggs, eat something else for breakfast. I eat all sorts of "weird" things for breakfast now that I guess most people think of as dinner foods or whatever, I even have some of my salad for breakfast at times. Maybe changing things up would help.

I totally agree with adding *something* to your eggs. I like some cheddar or pepper jack or something..... and maybe a tinch of crumbled bacon. Yumola! I want some now!

OR make a quiche in advance and serve up a slice for brekkie! Yum!

I used to hate eggs, but I'm getting over it. Anyway, my suggestion? Pizza omelette! http://www.flickr.com/photos/carbdeath/142013962/ It's not pretty, but it may make you hungry none the less =)
