Today was my 2 week weigh-in after induction and I weighed in at 219 from my starting weight of 225 so I lost 6 pounds. Yesterday, the scale said 216 which was down 9 pounds. I was hoping to see 10 pounds this morning and for some reason it went back up 3 pounds. I just started doing cardio work-outs on Saturday and I have worked out 3 days straight. I am doing the ArcTrainer. Is anyone familar with that machine? I have been going by the book, getting in my veggies, keeping below the 20 carbs and drinking my water. I am happy, but feel a bit discouraged today. Just looking for some words of encouragement.

Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
Hi! I am not an expert, but when you exercise you tend to create muscle and muscle does weight more than fat. That is porbably why you see a slight gain in weight but muscle actually burns more calories than fat.
Dont get discouraged, you are doing just fine

Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
you might try only weighing yourself once a week instead of daily. the first time i was on this woe, i would weigh myself daily and would see flucuating results like that, it kinda messes with your mind because one day your down a pound or two, then the next day your up one. i puts your emotions on a roller coaster ride of high & lows. this time around i promised myself to only weigh in once a week and that way i see a total result of a hard weeks work & not the ups and downs of the scale when one day my body for whatever reason decides to retain more water weight. this could be whats happening with you when to start to workout more, the muscles will hold water to help the healing process and then will suddenly release it when the body is ready.
so try to stay off the scale for a week and see what happens. also, try on some clothes that didn't fit before, you may see you can wear them again or are at least getting closer to wearing them than you were before starting this woe.
good luck in this wonderful journey.

Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
I posted asking about this machine in the exercise forum last week. I love this machine, it totally kicks your butt.I am doing the ArcTrainer. Is anyone familar with that machine?
Anywho, when I was at the gym yesterday, I read something interesting, and reassuring. It basically said, when you exercise, your body might retain water, which could look decieving at the scale. The article said you should rely on measurements, rather than the scale for the first few months (yes, it said months) when you start a regular exercise program. Eventually your LBM (lean body mass) will surpass the weight gain caused by water retention, and it may take a few months, for you to see the scale going down.
So...how do your clothes feel? Looser? Don't give up, and don't be discouraged. What your experiencing is normal. Keep up the good work.

Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
Hey there. We are pretty similar in our weights. Look at the big picture. You lost 6 lbs. in 2 weeks. That is GREAT! Muscle weighs more than fat. But it's probably just water weight. So, try to keep everything in perspective. I try not to weigh myself everyday. I try to do it only 2-3 times a week. Since I stopped weighing myself every day (that is hard not to do), I find I don't see the up/down of a lb. or 2. I seem to find a much steadier decline in the numbers overall.
Keep up the good work and just do the best you can. That's all you can do!Last edited by Fit4me&kids; May 9, 2006, 09:18 AM.sigpicHeather, age 37

Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
Hey, if it said 9 lbs yesterday and it is down to 6 today. That is just water. There is no way possible you gained 3 lb of muscle or fat from yesterday. Keep drinking your water and it will be gone quick. In my thoughts, you lost the 9 lbs for the two weeks since that was your lowest number on the scale. Re: 2 week weigh-in and exercise question
Thank you all for your helpful words. My clothes do feel looser and I feel lighter if that is possible. I will try to stay off the scale, but I can't help peaking!
Hopefully it is only water weight.
Miss Phode - I love the ArcTrainer. What a work-out! I was doing the elliptical crosstrainer, but joined a new gym that had these machines and glad I tried it out. I recommend it!Started 4/25/06
