  • Have a question about protein shakes??

Hi everyone, I sell Avon and ordered a can of the chocolate flavored powder in one of my books. It's sugar free and has 2 Net Carbs per serving and a serving is 2 scoops added to 8 oz of water, is that allowed in the induction phase? This certain shake is specifically for people who are counting carbs..

That really depends who you ask. Atkins stuff used to say "no shakes and fake junk during induction" (perhaps not those exact words) but the newer stuff put out by the marketing "geniuses" at Atkins Nutritionals says "sure, drink an overpriced shake out of all sorts of freaky junk so you can stall and we can make lotsa $ off you!"

    Sooooo, permissible? Maybe.

A good idea? No. Really, just no. They're full of freaky chemicals and usually taste nasty and generally not the building blocks of good health like meat and veggies are!

        It stinks, though, doesn't it??

I mean, I'd *LOVE LOVE LOVE* to have a bar or shake that wouldn't make me stall. But it just doesn't work that way!

When I'm out and about, I seriously would FLIP if I could have a to-go item for emergencies. But it seriously isn't worth the 2 weeks that I won't lose an inch or pound after I eat even ONE bar or shake!! Even if they DO taste gross

I sell Avon too and have a can of that too both the chocolate and the vanilla. I just tried to read the ingredients and lets just say I can't pronounce most of them. LOL Probably not a good idea on induction. I have not been drinking it in fact I forget I even have it. Looks like it is mostly soy protein and also has some whey protein and a bunch of vitamins etc...

Gosh that really sux! I just thought since I have three kids and am always on the go I could have a shake on hand for a snack but if it will make me stall then I'll stay away. I had one on the first day of my induction and it wasn't too bad it kind of helped my sweet tooth a little but I don't crave sweets as much anymore I guess that's because I'm in the 8th day of induction and feel great! I do have a couple more questions though, if you don't mind I see the "OWL Rung" Icon on some people pages how do I get that, or do I get that once I finish induction? The other question is when do I get to add nuts, seeds and fruits? I'd look in the book but I sort of loaned it out and don't have it so I ordered the new updated one off of E-Bay.

OWL is the stage after induction. Definitely read your book so you can determine if you need to move up to OWL or stay on induction a bit. We follow the 2002 version of the DANDR here, so if things don't make sense at times, your version may be different when you get it. Nuts, seeds and fruit are rungs in the OWL ladder, and will be added back in gradually, when you start the OWL rungs later. Check out the OWL forum threads for more info!

Re: Have a question about protein shakes??

As Jasmain said, there is lots of info about starting OWL in the sticky threads at the beginning of the OWL forum.

As to getting an OWL (or other phase) graphic for the stage you are at, if you click on the link at the top of the page called 'ADBB Gallery', then on 'Atkins Diet Graphics' then on 'Atkins Diet Phases' you will be able to scroll through the different graphics and copy/paste the one you want into your signature.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Have a question about protein shakes??

remember when you see something that says low carb there are many differnt low carb plans and the Atkins plan is high fat. Most low carb shakes are very low fat very high protein and in the body protein is burned as sugar fro fuel so shakes will stop your fat burning if they are the high protein ones.

If they are pure protein you casn mix them with a fat and balance them out to be atkins friendly. if they are protein concnetrates not isolates then they are mixed protein with some of the carb parts too and not induction legal.

One thing about shake plans if you wonder how slimfast stays in business since its plans work so well it is cause folk doing those plans don't learn how to eat real food so when they stop the shakes they ballon back up.

Dr AQtkins wants us to practice real world food eating so as we progress to goal we know how and what to have to keep us healthy and smaller. So unless you plan to make the shake a permanent part of your WOE for life don't add them. save the mixture and use it as flour in cooking recipes.

                  Happy low carbing.
